How Do Manning and Brady Compare at the Halfway Point of the NFL Season?

With the GAME OF THE CENTURY: WEEK 9 EDITION, just 24 hours away, now seems like as good a time as any to compare two of the best quarterbacks on the planet.

When not talking about PatriotGate, or running up the score, the conversation usually turns to the remarkable season New England quarterback Tom Brady has cobbled together. Through eight weeks, he's thrown 30 touchdowns, only two interceptions, and sports an insane 136.2 passer rating.

He's also on pace to shatter Peyton Manning's single-season touchdown record (49), set in 2004. But how does '04 Peyton stack up against '07 Brady on a week-by-week basis? Glad you asked:

Week 1
Manning: 2 TDs, 1 Int, 1 Sack
Brady: 3 TDs, 0 Int, 0 Sack

Week 2
Manning: 2, 0, 1
Brady: 3, 1, 2

Week 3
Manning: 5, 0, 0
Brady: 4, 0, 1

Week 4
Manning: 2, 1, 0
Brady: 3, 1, 0

Week 5
Manning: 3, 1, 1
Brady: 3, 0, 0

Week 6
Manning: 3, 0, 1
Brady: 5, 0, 3

Week 7
Manning: 5, 1, 0
Brady: 6, 0, 1

Week 8
Manning: 4, 0, 0
Brady: 3, 0, 1

Halfway-through-the-season totals:
Manning: 26 TDs, 4 INTs, 5 sacks
Brady: 30 TDs, 2 INTs, 8 sacks

In the final seven games, Manning threw 23 touchdowns (he only played a series in a meaningless Week 17 game). Brady's on pace for 60 touchdowns, but that assumes he continues to play when the Pats are pulverizing opponents late in the fourth quarter, and that Bill Belichick won't rest his starters during the final weeks of the regular season. Yeah, like that'll happen.
