There were rumblins' that the Colts Fake Crowd Noise operator fell asleep at the controls during yesterday's game, and some enterprising soul has gone through the trouble of putting it up on the YouTubes:
I heard the skipping sound when it happened live, but I just figured my teevee was about to blow up or something. It's worth pointing out that this is only speculation, although such accusations have been leveled against the Colts in the past. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has made it known that he wants to reduce the effects crowd noise (real or otherwise) has on the game, and it'll likely come up again during the off-season.
I don't really know what to make of the skipping audio -- announcers Phil Simms and Jim Nantz either didn't hear it or totally ignored it -- but if it was in fact manufactured crowd noise, well, that's not good. You can call it gamesmanship, but so is videotaping another teams' signals. You can't have it both ways.
UPDATE: Via Newsday: "CBS has informed us that the unusual audio moment heard by fans during the Patriots-Colts game was the result of tape feedback in the CBS production truck and was isolated to the CBS broadcast," NFL vice president Greg Aiello tells us. "It was in no way related to any sound within the stadium and could not be heard in the stadium."

It's obvious it's piped in crowd noise. Notice the announcers aren't "skipping". And it cuts off abruptly as if, gee, I don't know, someone at the controls had to turn it off once it started skipping.

Crowd noise CD or not, there still was only 1 winner.
It's a shame that any organization has to resort to piped in noise to attempt to gain the advantage. Where is the real fan making noise?

THE COLTS WERE OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO GAIN A COMPETETIVE ADVANTAGE,THATS CHEATING ANYWAY YOU SLICE IT.THEY SHOULD BE TREATED JUST AS THE PATS WERE FOR VIDEOTAPING TO GAIN COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE.BUT WE ALL KNOW THERE IS A DOUBLE STANDARD AGAINST THE PATS.

Well well manipulating crowd noise to help skew the outcome of a game in the home teams favor?! Sounds like cheating to me. I believe the good commissioner should confiscate all of the colts CD’s and of course their sound system and get to the bottom of this! Lets just go over a few points that sound manipulation or enhanced crowd noise can do to help determine the outcome of a game. Missed snap counts can give a defense an opportunity to get a jump on an offensive lineman and in essence hurry a QB into ill advised passes leading to interceptions (in AFC championship Games) sacks or drive killing incomplete passes. They can also create false start off side penalties that can definitely push an offence from 3rd and short to third and impossible. Anyone else notice the out of character off side’s false start penalties on New England yesterday? Not to mention an offensive line that has allowed Brady an average of 6 minutes a snap to find a wide-out open, cut to about 2 seconds in yesterdays contest! Tom hasn’t spent that much time on his back since his last GQ photo shoot. I know this goes on in every domed stadium and have no reason to think it will ever stop. all I’m saying here is everyone looks for an advantage. And people who read glass rulebooks shouldn’t throw accusations about a little game film

The Pats won't do anything about it but if the Colts were interfering with the Pats' ability to run their offense then that's cheating. "Faux"ly rollers Dungy and Pollian ought to be ashamed of their hypocrisy in questioning the Pats' accomplishments and organizational integrity.
I wonder if Mr. Kraft has gotten hold of Goodall and chewed his ass for the officiating yesterday?

" It's a sad day for the league" if it's true. Mr. Dungy, the Greeks called this "hubris," and it NEVER ends well for the hypocrite in Greek plays. I am just waiting for all the sanctimonious fans to chirp in on this, like they did with the Pats.

Why is it so hard to believe that every team uses what they need to succeed. The reason the Patriots are taking no prisoners this year is because of people Like Tony Dungee who said that the Pats only win because they cheat. I wonder why the Pats are so mad.
Did anyone else notice how one sided the refs were yesterday?

Joe, yes. The pass interference calls on Pats were terrible and they missed a few on the Colts.
Despite refs, piped in crowd noise, and no electronic QB to coach communications the Pats persevered to win.
Dallas nor Indy could beat the Pats at home.
Playing 60 minutes scoring late on teams building up to this game was excellent preparation for what the Pats needed to do to beat Indy in Indy.

Same thing as growing the grass taller to slow down the other team, watering 1st base in Baseball to hurt the fast guys, etc etc. Happens everyhwere in all sports. Everyones heard of it. Lawrence Taylor admitted ending hookers to the hotel rooms of opponents nights before the game. See where Im going here?

Memo To Colts: Use an Ipod next time, simply plug into an AUX input and you won't have to worry about skipping. Plus you probably been using that CD forever, its time for an upgrade.

The Pats are cheaters, and are loosing respect all over the NFL, so they are just trying to take some pressure off themselves. I think last year when this same story came up, it was whiny ass Tom Brady who started it. Chill out and enjoy what you have, for now.

DEK, what you say about losing respect may be true. Just be just as vehement if these allegations prove true versus the Colts, or you are just a yahoo hypocrite.

Yeah, Dek - Sure. See you right after you look up all the words in your posts in the dictionary to see which ones you misspelled. I think the Bible's also not too cool on boasting, or being selfish. Wouldn't know, though, I worship a spaghetti monster.

Actually the announcers did make sort of a mention of crown noise during a different part of the game, making a point of saying that the Colts fans must be "well trained" because they were able to be much louder during the Patriot possessions then become nearly silent during Colt's runs. I didn't hear anything right around the skip though.

You want chirping, you got it. Colts fans don't have to pipe in fake crowd noise, and anyone who has been to a game in the RCA dome knows it. We are loud, proud, and happy to let you hear it first hand. Every team should be lucky enough to have a coach like Tony Dungy. But thank God, He's ours. SEE YA NEXT SUNDAY!

Listen to the radio feed of the game, and that will clear it all up for you. The funny noise isn't on the radio feed, only CBS. CBS just claimed responsibility for the glitch. Case closed.

It's easy to be "Loud Proud and happy to let you hear it" when you're piping in extra noise. Every time you saw shots of Indy's extra-chromosome mouthbreathers mawking around in the stands, none of them seemed to be LOOKING like they were making much noise. They were all too busy shoveling nacho-cheese-covered Cheetos in by the fat-fistful (Or one would guess, based on the body fat index average there. If I were a cardiologist, I'd set up shop in Indy. Hello $$$!)
I'm not even a Pats fan, but I'm pretty against Jesuslovin' hypocrites who throw stones from inside their sparkling glass shrines to Cheating.
Colts = integrity. ROFL
