Dennis Rodman Wants to Coach in the WNBA

Dennis RodmanDennis Rodman is in the news, which isn't all that surprising considering he's a renowned publicity hound. This time, he's looking to break into the coaching fraternity (sorority?) starting with a job in the WNBA. Atlanta is getting a new franchise, and The Worm is throwing his hat into the mix to lead it. From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
"I love the city of Atlanta," Rodman said through a spokesman, adding that he's spent a lot of time here recently. "... Atlanta would be the ideal situation, starting from scratch."

Not so fast, said Ron Terwilliger, the owner of Atlanta's new franchise, which will begin play in 2008. While hiring Rodman would surely drum up national interest in Atlanta's yet-to-be-named team, Rodman lacks a few essential ingredients Terwilliger is looking for in a coach - starting with sideline experience.
[...]
"We need someone who knows the league, knows how it works, knows the players and knows the college talent coming up," Terwilliger said. "And we'd prefer to have a women's coach since it's a women's league."
Terwilliger suggested that Teresa Edwards, a former All-American at Georgia and current assistant with the Minnesota Lynx, is one of the leading candidates. I'm not sure I've even heard the name Teresa Edwards before five minutes ago, but I'm already convinced she'd be a better choice than Rodman.

You think lack of head coaching experience is what's holding Rodman back? Try the fact that an organization headed by Rodman would make MSG's work environment look like a Saturday morning cartoon. Road trips would be week-long orgies, and we'd probably see the first "DNP-STD" appear in the box score.
