Jeff Fisher Still Has Faith in Vince Young

Vince Young has had a tough go of it this season. After winning Rookie of the Year honors in 2006, he has struggled through the first nine weeks of '07. Or has he? Just looking at this stats, Young's completion percentage has improved by nine points (up to 60.9), and his yards per completion are down slightly (from 6.2 to 5.8).

He's gone crazy on the interceptions, though; Young's tossed 10 (to four touchdown passes); last season he finished with 13 (and 12 touchdowns). VY also hasn't had the rushing success he experienced as a rookie. He's averaging just 3.9 yards per carry; in '06 he was ripping of 6.7 yards every time he pulled the ball down.

According to Football Outsiders, Young ranks 41st in overall QB value, behind guys named Tarvaris Jackson, Quinn Gray and David Carr. Last year, he ranked 27th in the same category. The Titans lost to the Jaguars Sunday, and VY tossed two more picks, but head coach Jeff Fisher hasn't lost faith in the team's former first-round pick:
"I think everybody is a little frustrated at this point after a loss. I characterize that as just frustration after a loss,'' Fisher said. "We threw the ball 41 times, and that should imply that we trust what he is doing.'' ...

"I thought he played a pretty good ball game, considering the defense he was up against and the way he ran the football,'' Fisher said. "The decisions he made were very good decisions..."
The Titans are now 6-3, tied with the Jaguars, and trail the Colts by one game in the division. Despite Young's slow start, the good news: Tennessee's schedule is pretty favorable the rest of the way, especially compared to Jacksonville and Indy.
