The Arizona Cardinals just did not have it in them this afternoon. Despite more than a handful of opportunities to lock this one away, costly penalties and damning turnovers eventually doomed the team from Phoenix. And although much of the blame will be put on Neil Rackers and his chip shot miss in overtime, this loss was a total team effort ... and something that will be extremely hard to swallow for Arizona.
Meanwhile, the 49ers and their fans are probably drinking already. It's not that often that a team gets completely manhandled by an opposing offense and still comes away with a victory -- especially in that fashion. But a win is a win, regardless of how it comes about. And right now, the 49ers have to be thrilled with all but spoiling the Cardinals playoff hopes.
It will be a sour evening for Kurt Warner, who looked like a magician at times. But unfortunately, his three turnovers will overshadow what otherwise would have been looked at like a heroic day. In fact, I had already jumped the gun and began written a nice piece about him turning back the clock after a 484 yard, two touchdown afternoon. Oh well, that's how the cookie crumbles, I suppose.
Neil Rackers, Michael Barr and Ben Patrick ... are they going to get it in the Arizona media tomorrow or what?
Final score: 49ers 37 - Cardinals 31

1. I am happy to see a victory for once, it has been awhile.but still it is only our third win of the season whcih was susposed to be a breakout one for us. I still do not like the way our offense calls plays, but a win is a win and we did scroe 37 points. most by defense. but our assistant we brang in may have helped big time. we still need a big time QBa nd Alex Smith is not one as I have seen. I say we bring in Colt Brenna from the draft. and oh yeah trade Ashley Lellie for our first round pick back or a early second round. so we can move up and get Brennan.

4. Practice pays off, as always. Unfortunately, the Cardinals have been practicing for years to lose in the clutch, and have more or less perfected snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. As a proud Arizonan, I have to admit to less than apathy when it comes to our so-called football team... alas.

5. Enjoy your win losers. You just beat the stinking Cards. Big deal. 3 and 8 and you're celebrating?

6. Costas said that it was almost as though the Cardinals were freezing themselves. As the Cardinal's ususal do, they f--ked themselves. Why can't we get a winning team here in Phoenix. This team is a joke and has been since they moved here. An outright embarrassment. You have supposed professional men out there on the field making thousands of dollars per game, put fall far short of being a decent team. And to think we built a new stadium for this so called team. Unbelieveable

7. Today's Cardinal loss was the worst in franchise history. They've now lost twice this year to one of the statistically worst teams in the league. Everybody knows the only weapon the 49ers have is Gore. The Cardinals couldn't cover him running or catching the ball all day. These stupid penalties game after stupid game have killed the Cardinals. Now we've added stupid turnovers to the mix. Absolutely the sign of a totally undisciplined team. All the talent in the world and still they can't win. Somebody tell the coaches that Rolle IS NOT a cornerback. Either safety or the bench. He's totally undisciplined. False starts are unexcusable by the time you get to this point in the season. I'd hoped the new coaching would help, but it hasn't. I'm done with the Cardinals this year. How does a wide receiver get caught from behind by a middle linebacker? A punter get a 25 yard punt when you need 45? A pro bowl kicker miss a chip shot? And the worst....the quarterback fumble in the end zone in overtime. Those of you waiting for Leinart to return....that's not the answer either. We're doomed with this bunch of overpaid, underachieving, "me first not team first" bunch of undisciplined losers.

9. i think steve said it best, however i do think hes missing the big picture, the cardinals owners, well their to blame, it is the coaching that s ucks but thats from the front office ( the owners ) what they should of done is spent the money in the begging and got a coach that had a winning record not a offensive cordinator , whos fresh to the sidelines, ( dont get me wrong he's a good coach ) but he"s fresh to and cant manage the clock well as of yet,.. So as long as the Bidwells own the cardinals things will never change, im done with them for the last time..they stink
MAKE ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!

10. The Cardinals loss to the 49ers in overtime is worse than a kick in the stomach for Cardinal fans.

11. Once again the Arizona "6 & 10ers" snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The team may even finish above its 6-10 average to go 7-9 this year. Based upon previous finishes, the following year the team goes 4-12.
No amount of public money, high ticket prices, new stadium and other sucker fixes will change this environment. The pattern has been there for 50 years. Until the team changes ownership, you might as well be happy at 6-10.

12. I've been a 49er fan ever since Steve Deberg was finding new ways to lose every week. They suck big-time this year, but they are still my team. Good win !

13. Is it me? But over how many seasons, do the Cardinals have some kind of curse on them? Will this team ever get over the hump? Seems like no matter who's on the roster and/or who the head coach is, they have basically the same record (.500 or less), and find a way to strangely lose a game. De Ja Vu, last year when Dennis Green blew up.

14. Steve, you summed it up the best. Frankly, I'm tunning them out for the remainder of the year. I've stuck with these LOSER'S for 47 years and for what? I want to go on, but I'm too mad. See you guy's next season, maybe? Boy, lose to a team as bad as the 49er's. Wow!

15. I love Kurt Warner. He is an outstanding person and quarterback. Arizona just sucks! He has no help on either side of the ball.

16. Steve the Cardinals do not have all the talent in the world. They are the second most talented team in their division and this is probaly their best year for a while. If I was a Cardinal fan I would enjoy this 7 maybe 8 win season, because it is the most they are going to win for a while. Seattle has more talent, is better coached, and has an owner who wants to win. That is why they are going to win the west for the 4th straight season, and probaly for the next 4 seasons, because no one else in this division knows how to build a winning team. I thought you 49ers would give us a run, but alas you guys decided to help Seattle by taking the cancer that is D-Jack and his drops to San Fran. Thanks to all you guys for all the easy wins over the years and all the wins that are to come. GO HAWKS!!!! :)

17. The Cardinals played like the 49ers have been playing. It's dismaying to see some Arizona fans cut and run. As a loyal 9er fan from '75, even when they suck, they're still my team to support. Yesterday's game was one of the most exciting I've witnessed. That it broke the losing streak was sprinkles on top of the cherry on top of the whipped cream on the sundae of a victory. I've moaned about the 49ers losses, but I never gave up on them... and never will. Because that's what a real fan does. As for Jack B: You enjoying those sour grapes fella?

18. The defense hih not play well. Could it be that Adrian Wilson was out. Since they cut Barr today maybe this office will make a positive move and sign Paul(Boomer) Ernster. Get someone that can kick th ball. Neil and Paul could have weekly pregame competitions on who can kick-off the farthest. Ernie can slso punt like a demon. Get with it Cardinals!!!!!!!!!!!!!

19. To Jack B. Your ignorant comments on the people celebrating the Niners win is just that. Ignorant. If your team (whoever that might be) was having a bad year and won a game, would you complain? Are you sure your last name doesn't start with an O. ? Hang in there Niners, you'll be back. John C.
