My, how the mighty have fallen. When the New York Giants gave up an arm and a leg to acquire Eli Manning from the San Diego Chargers in 2004, they did it thinking that he would be the face of the franchise for many years to come. Now, almost four years later, the organization is beginning to wonder if he's the right man for the job.
And there has been, according to a team source, plenty of discussion about whether to draft a quarterback in April or sign a young one to groom for the future and possibly push Manning a bit. Jared Lorenzen and Anthony Wright haven't provided Manning any competition, and the Giants may want to change that going forward. The question is, will a young quarterback actually push "Easy E?"
Regardless, it's clear that GM Jerry Reese

1. Well I for one have always been a Eli supporter... I like his ability but feel that he hasn't been pushed by anybody. Look at what happened to Brees in San Diego when Phillip Rivers was looking over his shoulder. All of a sudden Brees was a Pro Bowl QB... (Coincidence... I don't think so) What does Eli have to worry about (Lorenzon...hardly a threat) and that is probably the main reason that Eli wasn't pulled last week. Jared is a nice novelty but not a starting QB.
I think Eli needs a little pressure on him...

2. I would like to begin by saying that I like your work and love sites like these. However, lately I am starting to loose interest and am a little embarrassed by many (not all) the fans and media types (not all). I have never seen such a general disloyalty among the so-called "fans". Eli has a bad game and the fans loose their minds. Giants loose 2 of 3 games and many fans want to jump off the top of buildings. How about some loyalty and mental toughness? It's bad enough to put up with the beat writers who seem to have almost a psychotic obession with driving Coughlin and Manning out of New York. As fans let's support our coach (who is pretty good) and our QB (best Giants QB is many, many years). Let's us show some guts and toughness!

3. Sean - I understand your frustrations, but imagine the beating I've taken for supporting Eli 100% so far.
I hate feeling like Eli is a waste. But the reality is, at this point, he's dropping the ball. Throw out the first game of the season and look at his stats. It's NOT good.
If he rebounds, I'll gladly insert foot in mouth -- in fact, I would LOVE to have to, but I just don't see it happening anymore.

4. Ok. This is the year many said would be Eli's year. It takes 4 to learn the game and emerge as a NFL QB. Eli had another bad game. Let's see how he does in Chicago, and down the stretch. At the end of the season, if the Giants find themselves at 8-8 or 9-7 after opening up 6-2 again, then something needs to change. Coughlin and Gilbride definitely. Out. For the life of me I still don't understand why Gilbride is our OC after what we've seen him do in San Diego. They discovered Gilbride didn't have the mind to be anything above position coach. I guess the Giants need to learn that for themselves. Eli? No. What Eli does need, and has needed all along, is a strong backup QB with experience in the NFL, who nobody would be surprised if Eli was pulled for him to potentially rescue a game or two. A veteran QB who can coach Eli, pressure Eli. If the Giants do trade Eli in 2009 or so because they run out of patience with 8-8 or 9-7 seasons, and Eli goes to Tampa or Green Bay and lights the place up... well, you think the NY media trash talks the Giants now...

5. Sean - I totally agree. But it was *really* bad on Sunday
Dan - based on history, you will be back on the bandwagon soon.
I think the quote is odd - of course those two stiffs have not provided him with any competition - they suck. Drafting a guy next year makes perfect sense given how fragile the position is. Losing your #1 destroys most teams. Favre or Brady or Romo go out? Those teams might be finished, literally. They have no proven backups.

6. bginna- I have to disagree on the Favre one! Seeing Rogers play here and there i think he has done well with the limited time given.
Eli would probably play better on another team! not saying the Giants are bad because they are not! It's just NY fans tend to destroy a talented player by bashing them if they don't win the gold right then and there!- They need to chill on the instant gratification! give it time, no QB becomes Marino/Young/Montana/ect.. in just 4 years!

7. I think that Eli would be great if the Giants signed a warner, or Chris Simms type of player, Eli doesn't have a backup and the pressure is right on his shoulders. And not to mention that both of our running backs were hurt doesn't help him either. Giants have above average recievers, some might say the best in the NFL with Plexio and Jeremy and Toomer and the defense is playing really solid so lets' get going G-Men!!

8. Sad to say Easy-Eli is a bust. When things go wrong Eli stands on the side lines with his head hanging looking like he's going to start crying any minute.
Eli reminds me more and more of Dave Brown ever day. However,Dave Brown at least tried to motive the team and lead them.I personally think Dave Brown was more of a leader then Eli will ever be.

9. Hell, they need to do something. Get rid of the crybaby. His brother is a good quarterback, but he can be a pretty good crybaby too. Hope there are no more at home.

11. Signing or drafting a backup is going to make Eli try harder?? Does anyone really think he isn't trying? A better O-line and better receivers are what he needs.... but of course, the Giant's history of drafting receivers is dismal!

12. SIGN CHRIS SIMMS WHEN TAMPA BAY CUTS HIM. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A SIMMS LEADING THIS TEAM TO GREATNESS AGAIN!!!

13. Someone said take out the Dallas game and his numbers aren't good. While this is true if you take out last game he has 16 TD passes and 11 INT's. That gets it done most places (got it done for the Giants too). The biggest problem for Eli is the Giants' severe injury problems EVERY year. This year Jacobs, Ward, Burress, Steve Smith and Shockey have all either missed time or have been playing injured. Burress cause an INT because he can't break fast enough on his ankle and Manning threwit to were a healthy Burress would be. Shockey ran the wrong route that led to another INT. A third interception was a tipped pass. Injuries and the offense as a whole have hurt Eli.

14. To Jimmy Akers and all of us Giant fans..THE GIANTS DON'T HAVE ANYWHERE NEAR ABOVE AVERAGE RECIEVERS....For Gods sakes guys....Burress is always hurt...Toomer is old and off the chart..Moss and Smith haven't proven anything except they might be too fragile for this level...and Shockey cannot be your #1 target...Look around you...every good team with a good QB has at least 4 good recievers..and a decent tight end..the Giants don't...and don't forget..Reese never had any intentions to sign a FA reciever..and Manning doesn't have any body to swing pass to out of the backfield...As soon as Jacobs starts to go east or west..he's in trouble...ie:(Where's Barber)..Eli has done some really dumb things, but Reese has to give him some sure routed/handed recievers to work with. PS. start grooming Ahmad Bradshaw...he is the next speed back..Jacobs can't take the abuse...and Ward /Droughns are backups...where is Ryan Grant Reese?.....Jerry Reese didn't impress me in April and he still hasn't impressed me in November. What kind of GM publicly criticizes his multi-million $ QB?..I think Reese can't wait to take Coughlins job after this season..He wants all of Acorsi's past to dissapear....

15. After 4 years it has become quite apparent that Eli( Happy Feet) Manning is nowhere near the quality quaterback the Giants, along with many of us, thought we were getting. Sad to say that at best, Eli is a servicable backup at best. I see a QB who is afraid everytime he drops back. Hasen't any of his coaches explained to him the need to set his feet before throwing? As a lifelong Giants fan, I am embarassed by the state of this once great franchise. A complete change is needed to restore this franchise to what it once was. Simms is still a better QB than Eli ever will be.

16.
So Eli fades back throws the ball 35 yeards downfield
right into Smith's hands and the kid drops theball
So Eli thros a flare to Jacobs and it hits Jacobs in thye back of helmet
So Eli throws a perfect pass to about 4 different guys and they drop them of deflect them for in terceptions....that's his fault?
So the jerky offensive co-oirdinator calls for 52 passes on a windy day...Giants lose to Washington, a team they are clearly beter then.,
So change the quarterback?
Nonsense....Get him some receivers!
