Gateway High School trailed Pittsburgh Central Catholic 28-13 with just 31 seconds left in their playoff game last week. But Gateway scored a touchdown to close it to 28-20, then recovered an onside kick, then ran this play with just seconds to go:
That was just your classic case of a wide receiver catching a pass and blindly throwing it over his shoulder just as he was being tackled, with a teammate there to grab the ball and run it into the end zone. That touchdown made the score 28-26, and Gateway got the two-point conversion, sending the game into overtime.
Fairy tale ending? Not quite. Gateway missed an extra point in overtime and lost to Central Catholic, 35-34.
