Is Gasol Available?

He is if you ask Sam Smith, who happens to write in a city that could really use him. From the Chicago Tribune:
Now with a new general manager, a new coach in Marc Iavaroni and a new style, it's clear that [Pau] Gasol is lost and likely expendable. At least that's the belief around the NBA, and teams expect a shot at Gasol by the trading deadline.
Well, Pau Gasol hasn't exactly started well, and of course the Bulls could still use him. But Smith, like most people, thinks that Marc Iavaroni specializes in Mark D'Antoni-style madness. In fact, he's the one who oversaw Amare Stoudemire's evolution. He likes working with big men and is glad they exist.

And then, the kicker:
The question is how much you really can give up for a seventh-year player who never has been a good rebounder or defender and hasn't been on the winning side in a playoff game ... How about Tyrus Thomas and Andres Nocioni?
Right, how about a pseudo-rebounder and an inconsistent Euro for an All-Star? Because, to Sam Smith, those two equal Gasol, which begs the question of why he'd want the Spaniard in the first place. Then again, it's blogs, not Smith, that have a credibility problem, right?
