Earlier today, we found out that Gilbert Arenas avoids painkillers for a variety of reasons. Now, teammate Caron Butler is coming clean about his Mountain Dew habit. It's in the past tense, which means he's ready to talk publicly about it. During his UConn days, Butler "drank a two-liter of Mountain Dew" before every game. From the D.C. Sports Bog:
"Yeah, I'd be wired," Butler confirmed. "I'd drink half [before the game], and then I'd drink half at halftime. Because, you know, it shoots you up. And then there's a down, and you're flat-lining, and you've got to go back up again. That's what I've been doing, but they don't want me to drink it any more. They done took my Mountain Dew from me."Between this and Butler's straw habit, it's clear dude has some serious issues with compulsion. Seems like he stopped it with the deadly soda just in time to have a career year. Who knows what heights he could scale if he would only put down that other, plastic vice?
A straw-less Caron Butler equals next year's MVP. Book it.

Hmmm, I'm inclined to think the more phobias/compulsions/vices the better. Tortured artist and all that.
Gilbert was the MVP candidate because he's crazier. And who's more tortured than Jordan?
I think Most Valuable Psychopath this year goes to Garnett.

Back in the day, (when people actually read books) there was one titled, "Be Glad Your Neurotic". It's main theses was simple. Only intellegent people have enough brains to be neurotic! People with low level intellegence, it seems, don't have enought brains to worry about anything!

I don't think we have to worry about any intelligence creeping out of Caron Butler's head, anytime soon..."They done took my Mountain Dew from me."
Enough said!

I commend Caron for kicking that habit. Dew has more caffeine than coffee or any other soft drink. It was probably difficult for him to stop drinking this killer of drinks.
Remember, caffeine kills.

Re: Jim Pardee post #11
Dew may have more caffeine than other soft drinks, but it is certainly not higher than coffer, and, in some cases, tea:
Coca-Cola (33.9 mg), Diet Pepsi (36.7 mg), Pepsi (38.9 mg), Dr Pepper (42.6 mg), Diet Dr Pepper (44.1 mg), Diet Coke (46.3 mg), Mountain Dew (54.8 mg) and Diet Mountain Dew (55.2 mg).
Just to get the idea, a 12-ounce coffee cup contains 156 to 288 mg of caffeine and the same tea quantity 30-135 mg.
And while caffeine is addictive, and withdrawal symptoms uncomfortable, I can certainly think of things much worse to which he could be addicted.
