At UFC 73 in July, Sean Sherk successfully defended his Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title. And then it was revealed that he failed the steroid test that the state of California required of him. Since then it has remained up in the air whether he would be stripped of the lightweight title, but now Steve Sievert of Brawl Sports reports that Sherk will remain the champion. The California State Athletic Commission reduced Sherk's suspension from a year to six months, and that was enough for UFC to allow him to retain his title.
In my view, keeping Sherk as champion is a huge mistake by UFC President Dana White and a huge black eye for UFC. More than any other American sports organization, the UFC's credibility is at stake with every decision made by its leadership, and this decision lends credence to the people who like to bash UFC by suggesting that it's a bunch of steroid-fueled freaks engaged in human cockfighting. If Sherk is to be allowed back in UFC at all, he should have to earn his title belt back. Instead, White has handed it to him.

Are you serious? The reason that steroids are illegal is because they're harmful to your health. It's moronic to complain that someone whose occupation is to fight someone should be punished for putting their health at risk by taking steroids. My god, let's not let people think it's steroid-fueled freaks fighting for our amusement, we need to do everything possible to make sure that everyone knows that these two men are fighting simply for the joy of pounding the snot out of another man.

I would like for someone to provide proven factual information that steroids, when used correctly are harmful to your health. They are illegal because they give the user an advantage and for that reason only. Also, I think if your going to test anyone then you should test everyone. Test the IFBB.

I think its rediculous he's still holding his titles, Sean Sherk is a CHEATER, not only is he cheating the UFC and other fighters, but his health.. steriods lead to serious health conditions. Dana White is basically showing that steroids are not a big deal in UFC.

I believe there should be a 0 tolerance for steriods in any sport! There will always be the "Sean Sherks" in the athletic world looking for an edge on the competition because they either don't train hard enough or are not talented enough to stay at the TOP!! Many althetes may be able to get to the top at least once in their career, but the real challange is to stay there!!
