Jamaal Tinsley Spends Sunday Morning Dodging Bullets; Pacers Employee Hit

Someday, fans of the Indiana Pacers will be blessed with boredom. Not yet, some unknown Indianapolis gun-toters have assured: Point guard Jamaal Tinsley's Rolls got lit up in downtown Naptown this morning, reports the Indianapolis Star, leaving the Pacer uninjured but the team's equipment manager, 48-year-old Joey Qatato, with a wounded elbow. The Star says someone in Tinsley's car -- Jamaal's brother -- fired back at the assailants, but it doesn't appear there were any more casualties.

Before anyone rushes to judgment: The police don't accuse Tinsley or his friends of any wrong-doing (save one guy with a warrant in Georgia); they were apparently being followed, which led them to pull into a downtown hotel. That's 'where assault rifle happened.' Of course, Tinsley does have that nasty matter of a pending trial on charges stemming from an episode involved guns and cowboys last spring; this will not help matters of the public perception, I assume. Fantastic Pacers blog Indy Cornrows offers his early thoughts on how this will be accepted around Naptown:
There just aren't enough facts to comment on any of this, other than it won't help with the apathetic fans around town that the Pacers are trying to lure back to the Fieldhouse. Before you jump to conclusions about Tinsley and his character, remember, all we have right now is a group tracking down Tins and friends and firing on him. Please don't tell me he shouldn't be at a club, that's simply ridiculous.
