Atlanta Falcons head coach Bobby Petrino is resigning to become the next head coach at Arkansas, John Clayton of ESPN is reporting. Nothing official has been announced, but it's clear that Petrino is leaving for the simple reason that he's discovered this year that he doesn't like coaching in the NFL and much prefers to coach in college. The decision is not about money, Clayton reports, as Petrino actually makes $4 million a year in Atlanta but will make about $3 million a year at Arkansas.
Petrino's one and only year as head coach of the Falcons has been a disaster, from his starting quarterback going to prison to the players all despising him. And now it's over.

Petrino is a quitter. Sure, it's not glamorous when you lose, but the buck stopped with him. I am so disappointed in him and his quitter mentality.

When the going get tough, quit?
Hey, great lesson to take back to the college game.
Btw, when was he negotiating with Arkansas? Nice to know he was halfass about coaching the Falcons.

He quit during the season. The players were right about him. He wasn't ready for the NFL.
Either he can't coach or Vick was better than we thought.

The guys a quitter, and obviously a low self esteem one at that. I mean all dogs and their fleas have spurned Arkansas, he takes the job for less money? With Michigan still looking?
How can anyone trust a guy like this with their kids....and how smart of him to quit a bad job for a completely disfunctional one.

Petrino did some great things here for us in Louisville as a coach, but he doesn't keep his word and can't be trusted! I find it ironic and funny at the same time that he only survived one season in the NFL! I guess you reap what you sow! He's a good coach, but I guess he didn't realize just how good he already had it here in Louisville........oh well, his loss!!!

Atlanta fans, suck it up! I don't even think GOD ALMIGHTY could save the falcons! IT's a horrible team! And Vick's foolishness didn't help matters! I don't blame Bobby, I wouldn't want to be there either. Good luck Bobby! From an LSU fan.

Who would hire Petrino? When Atlanta signed him there was nothing buy stories of how shady he acted in Auburn and Louisville. Now he can't even finish out 16 games with full control over the team. What a man, he calls in his resignation. I'm glad he was so worried about his team he is traveling around taking bids from colleges. And I was wondering what the hell he was thinking about, because it clearly wasn't the NFL. Adios, you trash bag.

If this is true, then all I have to say is, why weren't superior programs at Texas A & M and Michigan on this guy? At any rate, Arkansas got themselves a great coach.

Bobby Patrino really would be better off in college. The Falcons are to much for him to handle. They need to search hard in the offseason for a coach who could change this sinking franchise around.

Didn't Petrino have it in his contract that he could go back to college if he chose, with no repercussions? If that is accurate, then how did he betray anyone or anything? And just because someone is thinking something one day, doesn't mean the very next day, something can't change his mind. How many people think something one day, and get more facts, and then change your mind when you do get the new facts, that you previously didn't have. In essence, I think calling him a liar is a bit harsh, unless you know the circumstances.

He's no Bozo! What a mess the Falcon organization will be for a long time. At least until they get a QB like all the other teams are looking for. He went to Atlanta believing Mike "bow-wow" Vick was the centerpiece of the team until everything fell apart. You know he would've been fired from his NFL job soon. Seems the palyers this season gave up after Vick was indicted and/or there was a cloud over the team as training camp began. In the NCAA, he can get several #1 picks. I feel sorry for the next coach in Atlanta. Who would want that job anyway?
