We're just an hour away from the official announcement of George Mitchell's report -- can you feel the rush? -- and yet another Yankee pitcher has been named. According to the New York Daily News, Andy Pettitte's name appears in the report as well.Like the Roger Clemens name-drop, it's believed that Clemens' and Pettitte's trainer gave them the HGH hookup.
According to a source familiar with information provided to Mitchell, Brian McNamee, the longtime personal trainer for the players, gave the former Senate majority leader conducting a steroids investigation for Major League Baseball information linking Clemens to the use of steroids and human growth hormone and Pettitte to human growth hormone.Tough pill to swallow for Yankees out there if this is indeed all true. (Although, one can always debate the merits of HGH.) Oh, and there's also this highly unofficial list of names being bandied about this morning. This link comes with a huge RUMOR ALERT disclaimer. Check it out if you'd like. Much more to come on all this, obviously.
According to the source, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the information, both players were provided the substances to help them recover from injury.

1. Interesting that the two marquee names leaked are prominent Yankees.
Given that the buzz is that major Yankees will be implicated, I again question why the MLB chose an employee affiliated with a team (the Red Sox) to conduct this investigation.
I imagine that Mitchell will implicate a few Red Sox. He'll do so to escape criticism. But it would not surprise me in the least if there are some big names he knows about on the Sox that he's holding back.
Mitchell is supposedly getting his role back with the Red Sox when he's done. Why would he implicate a player that could help the team he works for?

2. Well, well, well. I can not wait for the plastic syringes to come flyig onto the field.......not!!! That's only reserved for public enemy steroid user number 1 BARRY LAMAR BONDS. I can not wait to hear the double talk about your beloved Roger and Andy.

3. According to the rumored list going around, there are 18 current or former Red Sox on the list.
Including Jason Varitek, the captain.

4. ndn... you idiot (not really)
OF COURSE THERE WILL BE NO SYRINGES!
America needs a scapegoat. America needs that one person who is so unlikeable that they can pin the sins of 1000 people on HIM. Expect people to all of a sudden talk about how "everybody's doing it" or how "they needed them to keep up with Barry"
Wait and see what happens...

5. Al -
If it's the list I'm reading, there are an ass-load more "former" than "current" Red Sox, don't you think?

6. Varitek would be bad for the Sox.

7. NDN- Despite what you may think, the reason that Barry has received such a high level of criticism and heckling is because he was chasing the most highly regarded records in all of sports. I think a lot of fans don’t like the idea of a cheater holding a record like that. The guy was in the midst of a federal investigation involving steroids and his personal trainer is a known provider of performance enhancing drugs. It’s strange how all of the Bonds supporters (morons) have changed their stories. It’s no longer whether or not he used steroids (you’d have to have rocks in your head to think he didn’t), it’s now an issue of him being treated unfairly. The guy is a bad person. He’s a liar, a racist, and he’s a cheater. I don’t know why people go out of their way to defend him.
John, come on man. You really think this is some sort of attempt to damage the Yankees? Seriously?

8. I got leery of Andy Pettitte when I saw him in a commercial professing to be a born again Christian. Every time somebody tells me that I head for the door.

11. Andy has a great family, he's a great dad and he IS a born again Christian and does his best (as we all do) to practice what he preaches. What you see is what you get with Andy. As successful as he's been...he's still a humble guy who is very personable. It's easy to throw stones from a distance, especially when your ill-informed. This is a wreckless forum and there's certainly no personal accountability to what's written here. Andy has indeed had injuries...that's inherant in the sport...but I have a hard time thinking that he needed a performance enhancing drug to compete. This is a guy that goes year to year contractually because he misses his wife and kids....why would he need to "enhance"? Andy's priorities have always seemed very balanced and grounded...I'll be very surprised if he's done anything that leaves him suspect with respect to this matter.

You are an idiot. How do you know he is a BAD guy??? Because the other idiots in the media say so. Have you met him?? Did he refuse an autograph?? Oh he cheated on his wife. A good percentage of Americans cheat on their spouseS. Oh he didn't like to give interviews.... stop crying. What makes Clemens a "good" guy. Have you met him?? Have you broken bread with him?? You don't know what dirt Clemens has in his life. He SEEEEEMS like a nice guy, but you don't know. Sounds like Clemens and Petite are liars and cheaters too. Roger has 7 cy young awards. That sounds impressive to me. Please someone, anyone, throw a nice big syringe on the field.
In some circles, people believe that gambling makes you a "bad" person "SPORTS BETTOR". YOU NEED TO GROW UP AND REALIZE THAT PEOPLE ARE MORE ALIKE THAN THEY ARE DIFFERENT. ROGER=BARRY STOP IDOLIZING PEOPLE YOU DONT KNOW!!!!....fool.

13. just remember this is a report...and reports
do not have all the facts or truths..much of
this situation is still hidden and secret..
yes..there are drugs in sports..there are drugs
in politics..and there are drugs on the street
it is a shame that a half-assed project had
to be put out naming names that could ruin
people and their families without fact..
this report..of four years..biased by a guy
who is on the board of the boston red sox
really was a waste and will probably do more
harm than good..

17. I wouldn't be so quick to judge until all the facts are told. Each player has a different story and each deserves to tell it to the fans. This is not guilty until proven innocent . This is the united States for Gods' sake . Every single one of us has skeletons...it just so happens they are in the Public eye. When JFK was the President...Clinton...running our Country , how easy we all looked the other way and made excuses.
Everyone needs to hear each one objectively before being so quick to judge. I think it would be a great thing if everyone could digest the information before coming to a conclusion about another.

20. I thought that I could read a Mitchell investigation blog without a Red Sox-vs-Yankees...This is about individuals who really didn't give a sht about you fans and what team they played on. Lets stop the our team has less than yours sht ok? I think this whole thing is just plain bullsht and Mitchell is a huge dikhead. There should be absolutely no punishments.
