We all knew names would start leaking out ahead of the unveiling of the Mitchell Report at 2 PM today, and it appears that the first bomb to be dropped is going to be a big one: Roger Clemens. Word out of Bristol this morning is that Clemens' former trainer spoke to George Mitchell and told him that he supplied Clemens with steroids and that information will be included in today's report. Details are obviously still sketchy at this point and Clemens' name is one that's come up in hushed tones linked to steroid use in the past. But we're talking about a guy who's viewed as the greatest living pitcher and maybe the best pitcher ever. He's a seven-time Cy Young winner who has taken two franchises to the World Series and it looks like a finger is going to be squarely pointed at him in about three and a half hours time. The Mitchell Report will not be pulling any punches, my friends.
With this word leaking out, there are clearly a lot of other big name MLB stars who didn't sleep well last night and are even more uneasy at this very moment. Buckle up, everyone. This is going to be one heck of a day.

Conspiracy theory I heard a few years ago when Rocket came back to the Astros after a third of the season:
He got a 50 game steroid suspension, but the MLB kept it hushed because he's, you know, Roger Clemens. Then he came back to the Astros after said fifty games because he was "deciding" whether or not to retire.
Seems a bit more believable now.

Clemens is no surprise - his name's been rumored for years. If that's the "biggest" name on the list then I'll be disappointed.

Greatest hitter, now possibly greatest pitcher. Let's see how the public and press treat this one as it relates to the Bond's treatment. Many obvious side issues will raised.

I'm sure there will be more big names other than Clemens. Can someone say.....Gagne? Bagwell? Piazza? etc etc..the funny thing is, I am sure there will be more pitchers on the list than people think, not just power hitters. Major League baseball players have been using Steroids a lot longer than people think. Try 1991-1992..and Im sure it was widespread before that but I can tell you of a few players who got steroids in the old mexican winter leagues back in the early 1990's. it's only gotten worse since then. Shame on Selig for his ignorance AND shame on Don Fehr, head of the player's union for figting the drug testing years ago when he fully knew that players were juiced up.

It will be interesting to see how many Yankees players are on this list......besides Roger Clemens. The Yankees keep spending and spending and never wind up anywhere....I guess they've got the curse of A Rod :)

Time to stop using Barry for the scapegoat and let's see if America begins to "hate" everyone else the way the do Barry...
Let's put everyone's "We don't hate him because he's black. We hate him because he's a cheater" theory to the test...

So I wonder if the rabid baseball purists - who've vilified Barry Bonds for having the audacity to break good ol' Hank's record - will go after Roger and others with the same passion, placing asterisks by all of their records? Somehow, I think Roger will remain a saint in the eyes of fans and sports writers, because he's already been annointed the Best Ever.

Yea...Yankees rule....Where have you been the past 8 years?
Watching them TANK is one of the most fulfilling things I have ever seen in sports.
bull SHIT Clemans maybe. He should go through the same shit Bonds is going through. If any Red Sox players are named...they should pay the price too.
Clemens really did you proud this past year.
6 wins=28 million. Smart move Steinbrenner and Cashman. Tell me, what did it get you?

Why does this surprise anyone? Just look at where our culture and society have gone the last 15 years. I coach college baseball and I have seen it all. Very few coaches and administrators at the college level have enough guts to address drugs, underage drinking, and rules infractions. We are a society of gutless "leaders" unwilling to stand-up for those doing things right and within the rules!

It's about time this information comes out. The one I hope is at the top of the list is Barry Bonds. He is the biggest jerk in sports, period! He has no respect for the fans or his team mates. Hope he goes to jail.

So Roger Clemens is a cheat, so are all of the guts who are being named today. When scandal hits baseball, there is only one group that gets screwed, and it is us, the fans, All the billions of dollars we fans pay for tickets, and memorabilia, and jersey's, and beer and hot dogs, and parking, and to the advertisers for thier products, its all tarnished. Baseball is just like everything else in this maze we call life. The only one getting screwed is the one who cares. Personally I hope this report puts baseball in its place. That it proves that Bud Selig is the worst commissioner in the history of sports, that the MLB players union is a farce which develops the culture of players cheating. Maybe the fans will wake up and realize the only ones being cheated was the fans, and baseball needs to do something about it. By the way Barry Bonds, your baseball was branded with an asterisk, by the demand of the fans. There is a reason for it, and maybe someday you will get it, but now that selfish roided up brain of yours isn't intelligent enough to see it. I don't think I'm going to attend a game in 2008, and put my time and efforts into working with a bunch of 8 year olds in Little League, at least they play the game for the spirit of which it is intended.
