We all are waiting to see what the line is for next week's meeting between the Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. Most likely, the Pats will enter that game at 14-0 ... and the Dolphins will be 0-14. However, Miami will share the field with a 17-0 team this week: the 1972 Dolphins.
Yes sir! The '72 Dolphins will be honored at halftime of this week's game against the Ravens:
For the 2007 Dolphins, the glorious past of 1972 has added to the growing embarrassment of the present. And the Dolphins know it's only going to get worse this weekend.
Starting with a golf tournament Friday -- and capped by an on-field tribute at halftime Sunday -- the organization has arranged a weekend celebration to honor the 35th anniversary of Miami's Perfect Season. Nearly the entire 1972 team will be represented.
Could the timing for a celebration of the aqua and orange seem any stranger?
''I just look at it like it's a whole different scene between 1972 and 2007,'' rookie wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. said. ``I respect them, and every time I get a chance, I meet them. But we've got a different thing that floats our boat right now.''
Of the current Dolphins, only Keith Traylor was alive when the Dolphins beat Washington in Super Bowl VII, capping their perfect 17-0 season.
This has to be the last thing that the current Dolphins need to see in a season where they are trying to not become the NFL's first 0-16 team ... not that they seem too thrilled about it.
''No disrespect to them, but there's no pressure just because they're there,'' defensive end Jason Taylor said. ``We hear it all the time what they did. We see the pictures in the hallway and the trophies out front. We see it every day what they were able to accomplish. It's great for them.
``We give them the utmost respect, but we have a job to do Sunday. They're coming back to be honored for the job they did, and we have a job to do presently.''
Not that the '72 Dolphins are having the most stress-free time. Waaaaay up the Atlantic coast and waaaaay up the AFC East standings are those Patriots, who are just 3 wins away from a perfect regular season ... four wins away from matching that 1972's team 17-0 mark ... and six wins from becoming the first 19-0 team in NFL history.
It could be a pity party all the way around.

The 72' Phins shouldn't even be on the same field as those 07' Phins losers.

Let's see the 2007 team play the 1972 team. How glorious it would be to watch Grandpa Csonka knock over a couple of linebackers on his way to the endzone. THAT would make an '07 Dolphin game worth the price of admission.

Lost in the race for 16-0 & 0-16 is the fact that being in the same division, the fish will finish with the largest margin ever(16 games) out of first place. Tell Shula & Nick B. I'll be toasting champange to that.

Talk about Irony or is it just bad timing? The league is very differnt now then it was 35 years ago and I am tired of hearing about the 72 team. I think the Pats will break the record and there will be mass suicide from the 72 team, everyone else is happy to see someone break their records, the 72 players wine and complain make excuses when a team comes close, and when a team finally loses a game they pop corks on champagne and celebrate like their life has no other meaning.
