Will Clemens Deny Using Steroids Under Oath?

Roger ClemensRoger Clemens released a statement through his agent yesterday denying the allegations by former Yankees trainer Brian McNamee that McNamee injected Clemens with steroids on numerous occasions. Now, McNamee's lawyer is firing back. From the New York Times:
By issuing a definitive statement, Clemens is challenging what McNamee said. Earl Ward, McNamee's lawyer, challenged Clemens to testify under oath, possibly at a Congressional hearing next month.

"It's one thing to issue a statement," he said. "It's another to testify under oath."
After witnessing the debacle that Barry Bonds has undergone the last couple of years, Clemens would have to think long and hard about exactly what he said under oath ... if it ever came to that. From former US attorney Tony West, who was interviewed by the Times:
"You really have to ask yourself, why would the federal government be interested in putting resources into figuring out whether Roger Clemens took steroids in the past?"
The feds went after Bonds because he reportedly perjured himself as part of a federal case against the BALCO lab. But Clemens isn't really mixed up with an already existing case, so it's likely he'll avoid further scrutiny so long as he doesn't protest too loudly and fades into the background.
