With 10 Wins Out of the Picture, the Lions Just Want Mediocrity

It hasn't been a fantastic second half for the Lions*. Even worse: they had to put Roy Williams on the IR (though his injury isn't derailing any playoff hopes). So now that Jon Kitna's guarantee (and the amended one) are out of reach, and everyone hates Mike Martz, and the team might have to trade its best player on defense, and a couple of their best players on offense might want out, and on and on and on, it's time to adjust expectations.
"We still have an opportunity not to have a losing season," Kitna said. "Nobody wanted to hear that. You can't believe you're saying that. But the reality is, that's where we're at."

At the very least, the Lions want to get to seven victories, which would be the best total of the seven-year Matt Millen era, and they want to do it at Ford Field.

"We don't want to lose these fans," Raiola said. "We've got too good of fans. They have every right to come out – whoever's going to show up at the game – to see their team perform. And to go out and lay an egg at home is unacceptable."
You know what's unacceptable to Lions fans, Dominic? Just about everything that's happened in the last seven seasons. This? Just a drop in the bucket. But, for clarity: at first the Lions wanted 10 wins, then nine and a playoff victory, and now the goal is eight, but they'll be happy with seven? By the end of the year we'll be hearing about how proud they are to have six wins, twice as many as 2006.
