It looked like the Chiefs were well on their way to extending a seven-game losing streak. But then the Detroit Lions happened. After trailing 19-0 in the first half, Kansas City pulled within 19-14, and midway through the third quarter, it's 22-20, Detroit.
Both teams are playing for next season, and one of the players auditioning for a job is second-year quarterback Brodie Croyle. Unfortunately, he hurt his right hand in the second quarter and was replaced by Damon Huard.
Croyle was hurt when he lunged at Lions cornerback Travis Fisher, who was blocking for linebacker Paris Lenon as he returned an interception for a touchdown that put Detroit ahead 19-0.No word on how serious the injury might be, but one of the concerns about Croyle when he was coming out of Alabama was his durability. He's struggled with injuries during most of his college career, and he's been unable to stay on the field when given an opportunity in the NFL.
Huard hadn't played since Week 11. The Chiefs needed Huard to stay healthy because they didn't have a third quarterback active.
It's still too early to suggest Croyle isn't the long-term answer, but it's pretty hard to evaluate him from the bench. At some point, the Chiefs might actually have to use a first-round pick on a quarterback.

Herm is clueless. KC gets to the playoffs last year with Huard, but he is benched this year for Croyle. The only thing Croyle has proven during the 8 game losing streak is that he is best at running the PREVENT OFFENSE. I cannot wait for Herm to spin the game next week. Regardless if KC wins or loses, he will be sure to say what a power the Jets still are because of how he built them.
Herm letting the players do whatever they want at halftime is just his example of halftime adjustments and represents his best coaching and should not be a surprise to anyone. Here is a quote from the Chiefs Media Q&A session on 12/11/07: "You know what, you find out about what kind of coach you are when you have seasons like this, not when you are rolling and going into the playoffs. I have been on both ends of this. I have had a lot of playoff teams and it is not even hard to coach. You just blow the whistle and just let them go outside. You do not worry about it."
"Now, this is when you do your best coaching, in my opinion. Any coach will tell you that. This is when you have got to coach them, you got to keep them together, keep them playing and you got to make some tough decisions at the end of the year. But that is part of it. That is what we are going through this year."
I guess as Herm implements his PLAN and KC gets better and better, the players can just do more and more of whatever they want. The guy is a total fraud as a head coach. Do you think Belichek subscribes to that philosophy?

So SAD. I predicted Chiefs would be 4 and 12. ITS SAD i AM SO MUCH SMARTER than Carl and Herman. Chiefs could not even beat one of the truly worst teams in NFL for many years.
Herman is not part of the answer, neither is Solari unless he is only offense line coach and Brodie at best is 3rd string back-up.
Get over it Carl, learn to live with it. You made a terrible mistake in hiring Herman. Just look at what Al Saunders and Todd Collins are doing for the Redskins.
