Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press writes the following in his column today about the Vikings' plans for next year:If the Vikings decide to return with 24-year-old Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback, they'll need to try to trade for the Arizona Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald of Minneapolis, who might also cost a couple of first-round draft picks, or sign at least two other premier wide receivers.Wow. Not sure where that comes from -- Walters doesn't make clear if this is just his idle speculation or whether he's talked to someone in the Vikings' front office who thinks that's a real possibility.
If it's the former, yeah, whatever, it's always fun to speculate about trades. If it's the latter, though, there are a few things to consider beyond the fact that Fitzgerald is from Minneapolis, where his father, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., has worked as a sports writer for years.
The first thing to consider is that Fitzgerald will have a $14.6 million base salary in 2008. He's going to be an extremely expensive player. The second is that trades like this basically never happen in the NFL. We're talking about a 24-year-old who has already established himself as one of the best receivers in the league.
Bottom line: There's almost no chance of a trade like this happening. But I have a feeling this isn't the last time we'll hear about it.

2. Take a WR thats a notch below LFitz. in Free Agency IF Possible and draft 1 in the 1st or 2nd rd. WAY TOO MUCH of a salary cap hit for 1 guy.

5. "has anyone ever heard of the Pioneer Press?"
Yes, most people who pay any attention know the St Paul Pioneer Press and the Minneapolis Star and Tribune are the two Twin Cities newspapers. Yahoo uses the Pioneer Press as their Minnesota paper of record.
