The Word:

Dunn Isn't Done Yet

Warrick Dunn isn't ready to hang it up after topping 10,000 career yards. After surviving the worst season in Falcons history, he wants to come back to show that he isn't as bad, and the Falcons aren't as bad, as 2007 showed.

"I can't go out like this," said Dunn. "Any guy whose ever thinking about retiring and had to go through a situation like this, I don't think this is the way you should go out. You need to go out on better terms. I'll definitely come back next year and play football."
Dunn has gained 648 yards this year with an awful 3.0 yards per carry average. His backup, Jerious Norwood, has 569 yards despite having more than 120 less carries. The thought of giving Dunn another 200 carries next year at the expense of Norwood's carries seems nightmarish. Dunn doesn't have the speed, size or burst at this point that Norwood does. With Norwood getting ready for his third year as a pro, it's time to hand him to the keys to the running game.

But that doesn't mean it doesn't make some sense to bring Dunn back. He's one of the few true team leaders on a team filled with plenty of guys with questionable makeup. If Dunn's willing to accept a backup role (and a paycut) bringing Dunn back sounds pretty good, but only if he's willing to accept that smaller role. He's not worth $4 million a year any more (and he won't find a contract like there anywhere else), but he's not a bad keeper at say $1 million or a million and a half.
