We underrate how difficult dangling on the trade rumor string must be. The uncertainty of years-long relocation whispers have broken many a man in the NBA -- Peja Stojakovic fell apart when shadows had him elsewhere, these Chicago Bulls have just now began to regain balance two months after trade talk was squelched.Jason Williams has been the target of much Trade Machine action; his expiring contract added to underwhelming performance and Miami's inability to rebuild with Shaquille O'Neal soaking up cap space has left him stranded in the middle of the Valley of the Most Likely to Be Pawned Off With a Draft Pick For a Fallen All-Star Making Too Much Money. From this quote in the Miami Herald, it seems he is at peace with his station.
"We're like some high-paid prostitutes anyway in this league, man. They just use us and get rid of us whenever they want."At $8.9 million for 82 nights a year... yeah, that's high-paid alright. In fairness to high-paid prostitutes, though: Williams has been awful this year. With 39% shooting and only 10 points per 40 minutes (absurd for a point guard on any team), he's been a trotting disaster, surpassed in suck only by exiled counterpart Smush Parker. If a high-paid prostitute performed this poorly, she'd be without clients. So crummy NBA players have it better in that respect -- it's guaranteed the Johns will keep callin'.

Jason needs to look in the mirror and see the real pimp, because every team owner he plays for is the hooker. The sad part is the guy has talent, but is nothing more than a thug with a guaranteed contract. It is a shame that guys like him get paid millions regardless of their performance. If it was you or me we would be fired in a heartbeat, end of job, end of story, end of benefits.

Jason Williams, Tom Ziller and some of the above comments tell us only too clearly what men really think of so-called "high priced hookers." How does a woman get to be a hooker? Most often by being sexually and emotionally abused by her father or another trusted male relative, teacher, etc. When you guys, most of whom have been johns, joke about prostitutes, you are joking about what one woman who escaped from prostitution called "commercialized rape."

I worked for the Magic for 12 years and they had no loyalty to it's employees at all.
Money was all the Devoss family cared about. That's why they suck now! The players hate working for their owners who over-pay them and treat them like hookers.
They are... Paid for playing sports. Hookers!
NBA has changed over the past 10 years and now the owners don't care about the players...only the numbers.
We'll see in the next few seasons if the Magic can get the cost of going to a game under $75.
And the Magic are trying to get a new building, when they can't even sell the Amway Arena out.
Greedy rich bastards!
I don't blame the players for not wanting to play this year.
Maybe the billionaire Devos will go away and make us all happy...
Except for all the Magic management which is paid WAY too much for what they do...or don't do. And it's the fans that ultimately lose.
When we went to the finals, it was a team effort, not just Shaq and Penny.
We don't have that anymore. Too bad.

It is not always about how much money you make.
No one should be treated like a piece of meat. Players should have more say so on where and when they should be traded or how they should be traded.
Just because your paid millions don't mean you dont have feelings , emotions and pride. Everyone deserves that

Maybe all you people complaining about how much he makes would like to know what REAL money people take home off these athletes who tear up their bodies and give up their family life in the spotlight and on the road for years. The NBA is a business in the billions. And HE'S doing the work. Common sense tells you an employer makes more than his/her employees, so before you jump to all these dumb conclusions about how he should work at WalMart with you, pick up an Econ book and *hear* what the man is saying ...and while you're at it, go pick up the book Forty Million Dollar Slaves by William Rhoden. That should school you.

Gee, thanks Polly. I was hoping some whining, self pitying feminist would inject a dose of her perpetual victimization into a blog about basketball. The article also spoke about a team "regaining balance". One of my legs is shorter than the other so I have a pronounced limp. Thanks to your blog, I realize how heartless the article really is. Sniff, Sob......Polly, would you please just hold me..??

Williams is not one of my favorite players but he is right on. They are slabs of meat, disposed of when the owners feel the urge.

Writing about an athelete who is not performing well at the moment is fun. You are a hero and they are stupid villains, just the opposite of real life. And anyone who pays anyone for what we all long to give away is not the hero they wish, neither. Maybe hero and villain are not useful for anything but selling garbage literature?

This guy has always been as dumb as a box of rocks. Listen to an interview with him--he can barely put a decent sentence together. He better be grateful for his NBA paycheck; he isn't qualified for any other well-paying job.
