Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp has been fined $75,000 for "physical and verbal actions toward game officials," Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting.
Sapp received three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars for one long, extended tirade toward the officials. He was ejected after the third.
Raiders defensive end Derrick Burgess was fined $25,000 for verbal abuse of a game official during the same incident. Burgess got one unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, so it seems that $25,000 a pop is the going rate for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for abusive behavior toward officials these days.
Sapp has had previous run-ins with the officials, but the fact that he wasn't suspended indicates that the league's review of the videotape was, at worst, inconclusive about whether he actually shoved an official, which Sapp has denied.

It seems that you do not know what you are talking about Kelly, first of all, the NFL does have any so called "gangster-like atmosphere", most of the leagues most liked and well loved players(L.T, Tony Romo, Peyton Manning)would not fit the catagory that your are stating. I am pretty sure you would not peg Tom Brady as a "thug" would you? Second, I believe that if sapp had actually pushed the ref in that game, he would have been suspended, goodell is very strict on those type of things and the fact that he is still playing and only got a fine is proof of that. When your a team that has had a season as horrible as Oakland, things tend to boil over, not the excuse any of sapps actions but things like that happen over the course of a bad year(like when bart scott threw the refs flag into the stands during the patriots game.)

It seems me that if things are that bad with professional sports these days, then let's just not have officials. Let the players play their games without someone enforcing the rules. It's not like the players don't know what the rules are and won't abide by them.

There is so much hidden racism in the world that it is rediculous. I hope I can make it to the and to see the faces of those "ghost beLIEving-fantasy world living-cursed skin individuals when they are proven wrong and told that this earth is the furthest that they can and will go. All the persecution will be well worth the wait. Every black person in sports or anywhere for that matter that get's in the news is guilty until proven innocent. Then, on these sites, they have these "blogs" in which they can vent out their real side which is always racist. If only it wasn't for kingu the caananites would still be slaves. Just read some of this crap. But when someone like me who's in tune and without tunnel vision points out the racism then there's the reverse racism thing that comes up. We all know who the real haters are...the ones without a soul...and melanin...say what you want and I'll teach you something but be careful if you don't want your feelings hurt...

So talking smack to an official is 25,000 each time and intentionally diving at J.P. Losman's knees is 7,500? Jacking up Matt Schaub helmet to helmet is 12,500? How does that make any sense?
After what an official did to Nick Barnett without repercussions, I'm with Sapp on this one. It actually reminds me of the stuff that happened to Tim Duncan and Milton Bradley.
