With the Cowboys' Patrick Crayton now off the market, and the Patriots' Randy Moss likely to re-sign in New England, the highlight of the wide receiver free-agent draft class is ... Bernard Berrian.
Berrian's a nice player, but he's not a game-changer, or even a No.1 receiver. The fourth-year wideout from Fresno State has had back-to-back quality seasons (he hauled in 51 passes for 775 yards and six touchdowns last year, and has 68 receptions for 932 yards and four TDs in 2007), and that'll probably be enough to earn him a Crayton-type payday even though he could've had more than that last off-season:
Berrian turned down a contract extension by the Bears in June that had $7.5 million guaranteed. While Crayton will no longer compete with Berrian for free-agent dollars, suitors will point to the contract Crayton received and say he is a No. 2 wideout and tell Berrian he is in the same class. Still, without many other quality receivers available it may not effect Berrian's drive for a big pay day.According to the Chicago Sun-Times' Brad Biggs, two agents were surprised at Crayton's $14-million deal ($6 million guaranteed) feeling he couldn't gotten a lot more on the free-agent market. (Crayton admitted that he loves Dallas and was happy to remain a Cowboy, so that probably had a lot to do with it.)
With not much to choose from among free-agent wideouts, Berrian shouldn't have any trouble finding work. And depending on the market, he could end up making more than Crayton with much less impressive numbers.

For sure a solid #2 guy. He and Ted Ginn Jr could cause chaos as speedsters on the outside for Miami but I know the "Tuna" isnt going to spend Huge $$$$ for a #2 guy and I dont blame him. Maybe Cinci if Chad Johnson leaves?? Phili? THey have Noone! Minnesota?? The list goes on.

49ers should get Berrian. We would love to have him back in California and he would fit in nicely.
