Roger Clemens might have already passed the point of doth protesting too much. Clemens is planning on making an appearance on 60 Minutes with close friend Mike Wallace, and right after that he'll be meeting with reporters. Which is to say nothing of Clemens' new Youtube account and his recently posted video denial of the Mitchell Report's accusations. Now Clemens' lawyers are starting their own, totally unbiased investigation into Brian McNamee's past, presumably in an attempt to discredit Clemens' former trainer in the eyes of the public. It'd be nice if Clemens would just sort of relax and let things play out, but the man apparently values the appearance of integrity and is willing to do anything keep up appearances. Unfortunately for him, McNamee's lawyers sort of seem better at that than Clemens':
"In the event there's a lawsuit, we've planned for that," Ward, who represents McNamee, told the Daily News. "We think it would be frivolous, but we're planning for that. With regards to the federal investigation, we're confident that (McNamee's) done everything he's legally obligated to do. It's unfortunate that this whole situation had to go down the way it went down. (McNamee) was friends with Roger and I think he hopes Roger understands that he had to tell the truth. In the words of D-Rock Zoolander: Oh, snap! If this turns into an all-out PR war -- which is apparently what Clemens so dearly desires -- consider this first salvo a win for the McNamee camp. This is going to be fun.
"Brian wants him to know that what he did, he was legally obligated to do. He's got a wife and kids. He's not going to go to jail for Roger Clemens."

Clemens can do all the public whining he wants, but if he REALLY wants to discredit Mc's claim, he should just work up the balls and sue him. Everything else besides that is simple posturing.

It's very sad. Roger Clemens got greedy. He used to be thought of as the best pitcher ever. Now he's just the pitching equivalent of Barry Bonds. What a waste. Why couldn't he have just aged gracefully? Why ruin a perfectly respectable career with cheating?

If I'm the Rocket, I use the Michael Vick situation to help me. Why would McNamee lie if it's in his best interests to tell the truth? Well, why did Vick lie?
Liars lie. We'll prove McNamee is a liar. Period.

What do you mean "we", kemo sabe? Are you part of the Clemens Legal Defense Squad? If you are, don't you have better things to do than post here? Like, say, trying to prove that your "Liars lie" observation isn't really on comment on Clemens himself?

How would you guys feel if a good freind of yours got busted with drugs in the trunk of his car and in an attempt to aviod jail dropped your name as someone he sold the drugs to. Now the whole nation thinks you are a phony and the only proof they have is the testimony of a guy whom was caught with the illegal substances.
Roger is INNONCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY, all of you who think otherwise are just hypocrits waiting to happen.
Sure it looks bad for him because another friend of his, AP, confessed to his connection with the busted drug dealer, but until AP comes out and says Rog was in on it too, OR we get some actual physical evidence that Rog did it I think it is a criminal that the public has convicted the man.
I would be willing to bet that all of us at one time or another have had someone tell lies about us. It doesnt matter what their motivation is, unless they have proof to back it up we all should reserve judgement, if not for Rogs sake, then for our own.

PS-the comment about Mcanamee having a wife and kids and he wasnt going to jail for Roger is just lame. HE WAS GOING TO GO TO JAIL BECAUSE HE BROKE THE LAW, not because he was friends with Roger Clemens. That has the be the dumbest thing I have read in a long while.

I've always wondered about Clemens. He's even worse than Barry Bonds in my opinion cause he thinks he got by with something. Bonds just doesnt care.
As long as this stuff is so intertwined with the corporate world, this will be around. Adults have got to take the kids aside and tell them its just not worth it, but its really hard to prove to them that THAT'S true, when you see the multi zillion dollar endorsements going to the cheaters.
Find your regional sports and support them. They are going to be a lot cleaner because aint no one making the big bucks.

I do not know if the Rocket is guilty or not. However, I always thought you went downhill when you get older. I think its MLB's fault. They new it was going on and chose to do nothing about it. If his lawyers & PIs discredit the trainers testimony; I do not think it will help his "legacy". Opinions have already been established. I can not unerstand how or why this is any different from Barry Bonds!!

I never said that, I am saying we should reserve judgement for we dont know what really happened. For we all know Rog and Mac had a falling our prior to this and Mac was looking to get even, OR Roger is actually manufacturing the stuff in his garage.
Both Clemens and Bonds deserve their day in court. Until then I think we all should just enjoy the show and not put ourselves in situation where we will look like idiots by convicting these people before we know all the facts.
So calling me an idiot says more about you and not me.

What good would it be for McNamee to make all that up? He knew he had to tell the truth or he would go to jail. That is not something you play around with. He could have easily left Rogers name out but he knew he would go to jail if he was not honest. Who would take that chance? Roger Clemens knows that McNamee can't prove it so he gets all upset and becomes "believable" to the press. Do you think Barry Bonds is lying? People Lie when they know for sure they can get away with it and there is no proof that the actual steroid went in his body. McNamee made no money from the press and even turned down 7 figures to tell the truth.
