2008 NFL Draft: Colt Brennan Tumbles

Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan has only a very slightly better chance of being a first-day NFL draft pick than I do.

After a 41-10 loss in the Sugar Bowl in which Brennan faced Georgia, his first high-quality defensive opponent, there's just no way NFL scouts are going to spend a first- or second-round pick on Brennan. He looked incapable of recognizing blitzes or completing passes over linebackers.

The questions about Brennan -- whether the June Jones Hawaii offense has prepared him for the NFL, whether his mechanics need work, whether his arm is strong enough -- have been around a long time. But those questions were never all put on display, for an audience that included dozens of NFL scouts, the way they were last night.

Brennan's production in college was sufficient to make some team take a chance on him as a long-term project, but they'll only do that with a second-day pick. Brennan is a long, long way from being able to play on Sundays.
