First off, a tip of the hat around to Covering the Redskins, DC Sports Bog and Hogs Haven for this one.
Five weeks ago, you couldn't imagine a team more stressed and heartbroken than the Washington Redskins. They had just lost their fourth straight game when Joe Gibbs called consecutive timeouts to give the Buffalo Bills a closer shot at a field goal ... and they were set to bury their slain teammate, Sean Taylor, the next morning.
A month later, and this team is loosy goosy. So loosy goosy that everyone's got jokes:
But the showstopper was obviously Clinton Portis, who has been insisting all week that Santana Moss's play has taken off since he was circumcised. He was at it again today, repeatedly.
"He had the big one. I told you, he tried to take a manly step at 29," Portis said, overstating Moss's age by one year. "After he took that step, his healing process, he's getting better. He's getting better every day."
Later, Portis said how he had learned so much more about his teammates this year, in turn allowing him to be a better teammate. I asked what he had learned.
"Santana to go that long without getting his tail clipped, that was the most interesting to me," Portis said.
Hilarious! By the way, all Washington has to do is fly to Seattle and win a playoff game on Saturday.
What is amazing about this is who is joking. Portis and Moss were the players who took the public lead in media requests after Taylor's death. Those two played with Taylor at Miami and seemed most affected by his murder.
Those two also have been dinged up most of the year, but are coming on strong in this stretch run.
"Taking my name in vain, we might not be boys no more," Moss said, not looking particularly amused. "Don't ask me about that. I might go off on my boy."Sorry, No Photos
"I know it's a tough procedure, man," Portis said.
"You listen to anything Clinton says, you might fall for anything in life," Moss said. "Listen to him, you ain't going nowhere."
And later: "That don't make no sense. I don't play that game. He can play any other way, but not that. It's all good though. If y'all see Clinton missing around here, you'll know I did it. We're gonna be fighting right here. Y'all gonna have a live one for whatever channel you want."
"I'm gonna knee him one time, y'all gonna watch him curl up," Portis said.

Just for the record, Portis hasn't really been "dinged up" at all this year, let alone for "most of the year." The guy hasn't missed a single game. Moss on the other hand...

Just because he hasn't missed a game doesn't mean he hasn't been dinged up. He's had nagging leg injuries all year (including the entire preseason he missed) that he's been playing through.

Clinton has been banged up in that he had offseason surgery, missed all of training camp and the preseason. Just because you are in a game doesn't mean you are not banged up.

I love it. Skins fans are falling into the same old trap, as if on cue. The team wins one damn game and all of a sudden they are the greatest squad ever to strap em on. Never mind that the other team had nothing to play for, was holding some its best players out, and basically playing a high school playbook in order to not show anything.
This is only going to make the inevitable Redskins heartbreak THAT MUCH more of a letdown for the woebegotten franchise, its diminutive owner, and its sad sack fans. LOL.
The skins will be VERY VERY lucky to even make it out of seattle, let's be real here people.

It doesn't really matter, because it's not the point of your post, but I still don't think "dinged up all year" is a fair characterization for a guy who dressed for every regular season game. There a very few starting running backs in the league who missed less time than Portis this year.
