Michael Vick might be back sooner than we think.Humane Society and PETA picketers better keep those posters ready, as there's a chance Michael Vick could be back on the field for the 2009 season.
Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Falcons quarterback could end up serving as few as 12 months of his 23 month sentence thanks to his entry into a drug rehab program in prison. By connecting the dots, the story speculates that Vick could be back in the NFL for the 2009 season, as he would likely wrap up his sentence early next year.
Apparently the drug treatment program, which is only in place at the Leavenworth, Kan., federal penitentiary, allows inmates to wipe off up to a year of their sentence if they complete the drug treatment program. Vick has tested positive for marijuana, which ended up likely adding time to his prison sentence. But now that same drug test might end up helping him cut time from his current sentence.
Vick has to be in the program for a year, which apparently hasn't begun, so he's likely looking at a February or March 2009 release.
Now, there are several other obstacles to Vick getting back onto an NFL field. Commissioner Roger Goodell will have to end his indefinite suspension, he'll likely have to pass frequent drug tests, and probably most importantly, he'll have to find a team willing to have a dog killer on their roster, with all the bad publicity that will come with it.
But getting his prison sentence over six months or more before the 2009 season does make it much more likely that Vick will end up getting back onto the field.

1. michael vick poster boy for young black qaurterbacks turned poster boy for anti dog fighting prosecuters will be back in the NFL the first training camp he is not locked up somebody will invite then sign him. He is two good of a player regardless of personal indescretions. just think in a funny swing of irony he could join the browns and celebrate touchdowns by jumping into the dogg pound

5. This doesn't suprise me one bit. As for playing again, well, expect that. The NFL will hire any bum with a felony off the streets.

6. Is he really "two good of a player," Mike? Vick will never be a member of the Browns, they get character guys. Maybe the Bengals.

8. GreatR,
Maybe you're the one that needs to go back and get some education. Who are you to comment on someone's grammatical mistake? I'm a true football fan and clearly the other people on this blog are as well. This is no place for bigotry and racism. Grow up and realize that people are equal regardless of what color their skin is.

12. I'll be ready to protest & might even travel to wherever the hell he is just to carry a sign & let Vick know how much I loathe animal abusers. I still can not believe that any team would lower their standards that much to accept a convicted felon, sadistic torturer & killer of animals for entertainment. Owner & operator of Bad Newz Kennelz from 2001-2007 & would still be happily running his little operation today if not for the fact that the feds accidently discovered is dog fighting facility while arresting his cousin at Vick's residence.
Josh, I hope you're just a dumb kid being stupid & you are not serious. If you are than I'm sure your day will come just like Vick's did.

13. The only thing I can conclude is it must be coming from one of those on-strike Hollywood writers and it's just a whimiscal conclusion to the fantasy movie script that he was assigned to do before the strike. Somebody picked up the wrong fax and thought they had a blockbuster sports story but all they got was a page of the dialogue from the movie because you know Hollywood can't wait to sink their teeth, no pun intended, into this and make a movie about it.

14. Men and Women the average child molester in the USA gets 18 months in jail that is if they get caught. Children are more valuable than animals and yes that includes dogs. Mike Vick made a serious mistake and lost all of his endorsements, 2 full NFL Seasons and he is serving time in a Federal Prison. The true fact is 1/5 of all NFL players have been charged-arrested for a serious felony so Vick is one of many players that have made bad decisions. We live in a country that gives second chances and after Mr. Vick serves his sentence he should be allowed to pursue an NFL Career. Whats sad is here in America Senator Teddy Kennedy clearly got a free pass with the young lady his secretary??? that drown in a vehicle that he left her in and there was not 1/1000 of the outrage that there has been to crucify Vick. PS For you Females Peyton Manning in the past couple years settled out of court for CASH with a female athletic trainer that he supposedly exposed his self to at the University of Tennessee. Had Manning who was an 18 kid that did one silly thing been black he would have never been drafted in the NFL. What Vick did is horrible and he is being punished please let the young man move forward and get a life. ITs sad that in 2008 that race is still an issue on how we few things in America. God Bless Dr. Martin Luther King..

16. What in the hell do drugs have to do with Vick's sentence? That is not what he was imprisoned for. And everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that there are still Virginia state charges pending against him. As for him being "too good", that does not excuse him. If that was an excuse, Bill Clinton would never have been impeached. Vicks should never be allowed to play football again.

17. Hmmm.... Money, sport superstar, shortened jail time? Who the hell does this really surprise? I'm surprised he received any jail time. Once again this shows that money talks and bullshit walks, or in this case maybe I should say, " dogshit " walks. Michael Vick is the wad his mother should've swallowed.

18. Bill Clinton lied under oath and get a free pass from a group of Senators-Lawyers that saw the lab results of his DNA on Monica's dress that proved other wise. You Liberals loved Slick Willy and voted him in a second time to lead the USA. On the other hand Vick should go to prison for ever according to most of you and at least he told the truth and owned up to his mistakes. At least Vick did not say he smoked pot with out inhailing!

19. Some of these jerkoffs that think that Vick will be back in the NFL soon, keep forgetting that he can still recieve up to 30 years on the State of Virginia charges, as well as being indenifently susspended by the NFL.

20. Dear Heightspan every one has done stupid things and yes wrong things in there life. I love animals there God's gift to us. At the same time we live in a country that gives second chances to child molesters, rapists and even murders. If a child molester gets a second chance Vick should as well. Brutally killing animals is horriffic but not as serious as violating children. Vick has never been an accurate passer as soon as he looses his speed he will be out of the NFL...
