The Golf Channel has announcer Kelly Tilghman has been suspended for two weeks for saying during a Friday broadcast that young golfers should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley."
The network released this statement:
The GOLF CHANNEL regrets the poorly chosen remarks made by Kelly Tilghman on a recent broadcast and, again, extends our apologies to anyone who was offended. There is simply no place on our network for offensive language like this. While we believe that Kelly's choice of words was inadvertent and that she did not intend them in an offensive manner, the words were hurtful and grossly inappropriate. Consequently, we have decided to suspend Kelly for two weeks, effective immediately. This seems fair. Tilghman shouldn't get fired for saying one stupid thing, but she shouldn't get off with no punishment at all. This strikes the right balance.

Kelly and Tiger are friends. The suspension is rediculous. Reminds me of Jimmy "The Greek" and Isaiah Thomas several years ago - both men said the same thing; Jimmy was fired and never heard from again while Isaiah's comments were totally ignored. Ultra sensitive political correctness continues to press press people to stay in their homes and shut up.

Kelly should be fired for two reasons:
First, because it was totally inappropriate, intended or not, in this day and age. You can be sure if a male said what she said, it would be instant banishment, no questions asked. Remember Jimmy The Greek?
Second, because she is the worst golf announcer/commentator of all time. She is supposedly there because Arnold Palmer likes her. Well, Golf Channel, you're spending a bundle on Faldo, and their lack of chemistry is totally attributable to her lack of professional broadcast skills.
Give her the boot!

Kelly, and Tiger should sue TGC for caving into idiots, and their idiotic demands. That, or Tiger should just buy TGC and fire everybody except Kelly. A non issue, is a non issue. Hopefully she was suspended with pay.........Patch

Making lynching jokes on air is a non-issue? If that's the case...what IS an issue?

So kelly is in trouble for saying someone should lynch Tiger. As I recall Faldo said something prior to that about.."ganging up on the #1 player..." Does it not seem like he led her into her poor choice of words? Pretty stupid idea on my part to say the least. My point is that if Tiger himself is not bothered by the remark, then just get on with the game. If Kelly's remark is so bad, why is Faldo's remark acceptable? Listening to the "Kelly Haters", you'd think they would also go after Faldo since his remarks could be taken out of context and implying that someone should do harm to Tiger, just as easily as some are taking Kelly'd remark out of context. If you are wanting to cause an uproar because of your own poor assumption, then go after the the other guy too. Hell, clean out the house. Take that Sabbatini guy down too while your are at it. He did more harm to golf, and Tiger than anything Kelly, and Nick reported.........Patch

Kelly Tilghman deserved at least this much punishment fired for referencing our nation's sad history of atrocities against Thai-Americans.

4. maybe i'm wrong but why is it that in this day and age a person has to watch everything they say.
tell me this: next time I take my dog to the vet and he calls her a bitch should I raise a whole media blitz. Or When i've forgotten something and say I had senior moment are they going to picket outside of my house. or a "blond moment" do they call out the blonds of america.Come on people Also we better not watch any old westerns, due to the fact the this phrase is used in them. Where does this end?
We the people of the UNITED States need to stand as one and worry about the issues that are happening in every city. ie; robbery, rape, murder.
we should not have to have an issue of worrying about saying something, and have it misconstrued by someone who only hears what they want to. and to never even for one second expand thier self centered selves and realize that not everything is about them. I can also asure you that every single person who reads this, has had somthing totally misconstrued in their life time. Consider yourselves lucky that you didn't have it happen in the limelight.
Hang in there Kelly!!!

You folks who are complaining about Kelly's remark are borderline hypocrits. When was the last time you complained about about a movie that showed a black man hanging from a hangman's knot with his church burning in the back ground?
The remark was about Tiger, whos says it is a "non issue" with him, and his management team.
I do agree with the post about her not being a very good golf announcer. Then again I think most of TGC announcers could do a much better job. What they should be showing is more golf shots from different angles, with some of those top 100 golf instructors giving out swing instruction between the professional golf shots being made.....Patch

A two-week suspension? Seriously? Does anyone really, truly believe Kelly to be a racist? If Phil, Ernie or any other elite white golfer were as dominant as Tiger is, I'm sure her words would have been the same for them. TGC is obviously trying to make an example of Kelly to preserve their squeaky-clean 1950's image of do-no-wrong-no-matter-what-for-the-sake-of-sponsors, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Finchem had a say in this suspension, as to uphold the absurd deal the TOUR made with TGC. Get over it, everyone. If you were suspended from work for every dumb comment you've made, you'd all be broke.

After reading Kelly’s Bio, which states she graduated from Duke University with a Bachelors degree in History and Political science I find it hard to believe that her insensitive comments regarding “lynching” Tiger Woods were just a poor choice of words. Didn’t she learn the history behind the word “Lynch” while attending classes at prestigious Duke University not only in regards to Blacks, but also to sympathetic Whites whom helped blacks and/or spoke out against racism and prejudice. The apology she offered was a blanket, heartless, non-emotional apology. Her claiming to have known Tiger Woods for twelve years is supposed to justify her apology and poor choice of words. That like telling a Black jokes, then saying it is ok my best friend is African –American or Black, it is still offensive. Suspending her for two weeks, without her truly understanding the context of her remarks regarding the history of the word “lynch” is not the right course of action The Golf Channel should have taken.

The AOL question to vote on should have been whether kelly ought to have been suspended, and not whether the suspension is long enough. What is happening in this country? Looks loke noone can take a joke anymore. It is ridiculous! Kelly only made the statement as a joke, and people like Sharpton who obviously have nothing to do jump on it as if she has committed a heinous crime. the network should be ashamed for suspending her. Shame on them.

There is no excuse for Kelly Tilghman's Tiger Woods
"lynching" slip of the tongue!! She should be fired
from golf channel and made to publicly apologize for
her words!! Howard Cozell was fired for calling a prof. NFL player a little "monkey"--lynching is far
more serious than calling someone on nat'l TV a little monkey---Kelly should be shamed in front of
the golf channel viewers for her real obvious thoughts about Tiger!!

Seems fair?
are you kidding me?
She cracked a joke. It wasnt that funny, but she is a kid. tiger didnt think it was racist, im sure she didnt mean 'kill the black golfer kkk style'
yeah, she could have said "beat him up" or "mug him" or something else,,but "lynching" to many people is the same thing as mugging or beating someone up..kids today are alot more racially tolerant, they are alot more integrated overall and as a result, dont disparage...im sure if mickelson or els were the dominant person, she could have said the same EXACT thing and no one would have blinked,,so beacuse tiger is black,,the whole remark is judged differently...if you think her remark was offenseive and racist, then YOU are racist

Im not surprised at all by Tiger's statement, cause since his "star" started to rise he never considered himself to be "black" anyway! Remember the term "multiculturism" became his M.O. in the 90's. Funny though the white people dont agree with his view...remember Fuzzy Zeller comments about Tiger winning the masters and how they should serve fried Chicken and collard greens, now this comment about lynching him. Im also not surprised Tiger married his beautful blond hair, blue-eyed wife.....you see Tiger every time you try to get out..."They keep pulling you back in!" lol seriously though....he cant escape the fact that he will be viewed as a "black Man" period.
As for the anchor...poor choice of words even if she didnt mean it that way...Will Smith made a comment about Hitler not too long ago and they was comming for his hide till he cleared up what he said and the Jewish community was ok with that. You see it doesnt matter what you say but "who" you say it about!!! Had that woman said something about a Jewish golfer...like he should be tortured in a gas chamber!! ha ha man I just wonder how the media would have taken to that statement...but it was just a lil old black joke...no harm no foul! Imus is back on the air and all is well with the universe!
