We've noted in this space that Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman has been suspended for two weeks for saying that if young golfers are going to beat Tiger Woods, they might have to "lynch him in a back alley." We now have the video:
Woods said through his agent that he and Tilghman are friends and that he feels there was no ill intent in her comments.

1. Bring Kelly back, when is this going to stop, she doesn't deserve this treatment. If this offends someone, so what. We need to stop bowing down to the like of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. This is when they get their mugs on television and they jump on this stuff. Get rid of them and nobody will care.

2. Sure, you're a black male there, Ace. Just say minorities are too damn sensitive and leave it at that.
Holla.

3. she needs to apologize and sharpton needs to accept her apology and everybody needs to move forward.
Posted at 11:20PM on Jan 10th 2008 by cant believe she still has a job
4. You're not gonna let this die, are you.
can't believe she still has a job-
Why should she apologize to Al Sharpton? He's not the spokesman for all black people.

5. Golf Channel is run by wusses, I dropped my subscription today. Its fine for blacks to have songs about killing cops, and whites and they aren't joking.
Black only scholarships
Black only schools
Black marches
Black History month
Black holidays
no quotas for races in sports
so who is prejudice!?

6. I will not be watching the golf channel any longer. You guy's need to get a life. I'm sure you've lost a lot more then your going to gain with this stupid move. The guy that made this call should go away for ever.

8. Two questions for the people deriding the Tilghman suspension:
Does anyone think Tilghman's comments were a good thing?
If Tilghman had said 'have Stuart Appleby drive his wife to the airport' as a joke, would their be this rush to defense of her?
Everyone (outside of the Jackson/Sharpton axis) seems to be reacting appropriately. Tilghman apologized for what she said, Tiger immediately deemed it a non-issue, The Golf Channel made a minor move (two weeks is one more week than I though she was going to get) against an employee what brought them negative publicity.

9. This has been blown way overboard! This is not RACIST in any way form or shape. This is sad that society is so immature. Tiger is not offended and neither should anyone else be, GROW UP! Remember this is coming from a BLACK MALE also......SAD

10. Kelly's getting exactly what she deserves. You white folks think you can say whatever you want, whenever you want without "REPERCUSSIONS". Well, white people....open your dang on eyes....times are changing and finally your race is learning "WHAT GOES AROUND...COMES BACK AROUND"!! Now of course, ms. anchorperson is not receiving enough punishment, because if she were...oh let's say "BLACK,HISPANIC,ASIAN,OTHER THAN WHITE", well let's keep it real, she'd received wayyyyyyyy more of a punishment than two weeks!!!!!!! Another thing, we are not "MINORITIES"!!! Again, you better open your eyes and take a look....cause whether you like it or not...."WE'VE TAKEN OVER"!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!So I ask you "WHOSE A MINORITY"....well let me help you out a little somethin',somethin' "CAUCASIANS"!!! STOP HATING AND GET A FREAKIN' GRIP....WERE HERE FOR THE DURATION!!!!!
HAVE A MOST WONDERFUL DAY!!!

11. unbelievable. what's next in this country. no more golf channel for me. her two week suspension is totally ridiculous.

12. Dear Ace, Kendall and the likes of all of you who are defending Kelly = You get a life and stop supporting racist comments, no matter how minor you may think they are. Her comment was offensive and I believe thay were offensive to Tiger as well. He is just too much of a gentleman to admit that. As a white male I was offended and embarassed for her. News anchors have to be held to a higher standard. I think her punishment was appropriate. Have you noticed that thousands of people either wrote or called to complain, but only a handful of people wrote to protest her punishment. Think about that although I don't think the golf channel will miss you or your subscription.

13. Just saw the tape..... if this is an issue then I think we are in deep trouble in this country. It was clearly an off the cuff response to Faldo, and only that. What she clearly tried to convey was that if the other players are going to overtake Tiger, then they need to tie one of his hands behind his back and make him play left handed...!!! Otherwise they have little chance. I can only contrue her comments as a compliment to Tiger. Nuff said.

14. Just reviewed the tape and until people walk in the steps of other races than you would have a better understanding on how some comments can be hurtful. I like kelly and I think she made a poor choice of words and the time off will help her understand how important her comments can be on national T.V.

15.
Re Kelly incident, yes it was off the cuff BUT a person with her experience should have known better.
I think she should have been fired, its as simple as that.
I would imagine that even though Tiger is playing it down he was hurt by her comments as anyone would be by someone who they thought was a friend.

16. I think everyone who downplays this as 'unimportant' doesn't truly and fully understand the seriousness of this RACIST comment. When you lynch someone, you drag them across the ground until each part of their body literally tears away from the rest. If you think that is funny or not important enough to protest, you're one sick and twisted person. I really don't care how she meant for the comment to be taken, lynching, period, has a negative connotation and will always have a negative connotation to it. Years ago, if an African-American person said something as RACIST as that, they would be immediately killed or put in jail. But see how the table turns when Caucasians do it; they get mad for a 2-week suspension! That's a free break, quite frankly! Even Lou Dobbs flicked it off as insignificant and silly. She may not have meant for him to really be lynched, but just to say that about a so-called 'friend' is very disrespectful. Tiger Woods accepted her apology very gracefully and he didn't want to stoop to her level of ignorance by saying something horrible back. If you don't understand why I'm reacting the way I am, at least have the respect to acknowledge that was a VERY INAPPROPIATE thing to say. Don't get on Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for speaking up for this because this RACIST comment deserves this kind of attention. But let's turn to what good can come out of this! I think this incident should send us to books, movies, magazines, and actual pictures of lynchings. And perhaps then, that knowledge will put in perspective, at least a little bit, why African-Americans feel this way.

17. While I personally wish that Jackson and Sharpton would go away, the comments made by Kelley are totally inappropriate. Lynchings of "black males" has a sordid and long history. As a regular golfer,I heard too many nasty and negative comments about "Tiger's ability to win. Yes! These comments are made by whites. Now that is silly. It looks like another case of "The Great White Hope." If I were in "Tiger's camp, I'd beef up the security. there are some real resentful nuts out there.

18. Al Sharpton, get a life and find a new cause.
You can't think you come up to Kelly's league.

19. She is the most professional and intelligent female sportcaster not only on the golf channel, but all sports. Her comments were "strickly off the cuff" and not racist. If you think other, you are dam stipid!!! Just ask Tiger. Punishment was ridiculous!!!!

20. the government is run by whites,
our country was established by whites
whites enslaved blacks, discriminate them, don't treat them as if they are equals
and comments like this with no reprecussion allow people to think they are ok and they aren't.
what do whites deem as racist against them?
Because most stereotypes and racial slurs are aimed at people of color, Tiger Woods is the best Golfer ever and some people can't get that a Black man is the best at a historically White sport.
