Number 11 on Bill Parcell's List of Quarterback Commandments is "Don't Be a Celebrity Quarterback." Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo pinned this list on the back of his locker after receiving it, but I guess Jessica's allure is more important than what some mean old coach thinks.

Romo is mentioned in two different sections of the January 14th issue of Star Magazine. In an article entitled "Is Jessica Sleeping on Cloud 9," a friend of hers tells the mag that Tony gave 12 of his #9 practice jerseys to Jessica, and that she finds it "comforting and romantic" to wear them to sleep.

According to the report, Jessica refuses to wash one jersey because "it smells like Tony!" (Star Magazine has a way with exclamation points). I guess this means he can get a cologne endorsement (video) just like Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Dare I ask what eau de Romo cologne would smell like?

The report sites "some insiders" who say that the relationship is purely for publicity reasons.

Later in the magazine, they suggest that Jessica is bad luck to Tony because when she was was sporting her pink jersey publicly at a game, he played horribly. Also, that her last movie only released to a few theaters and only brought in $1200 on its debut weekend.

So, is it fair to criticize this in-season relationship as a distraction? Both articles in Star mentioned criticism from Cowboy fans. Jean-Jacques Taylor of the Dallas Morning News suggests that those who criticize Romo's dating habits should "Shut up and get a life."

Houston sports talk radio host, Lance Zierlein on 1560 The Game referred to Simpson as a succubus, half-jokingly saying that she ruins everything around her. (For thems who do not know, a succubus is a demon who takes the shape of a beautiful woman to seduce men so that they can drain their energy to sustain themselves. Hmmm).

Tom Brady can get away with dating or impregnating whomever he wants because he has the good will that comes from Super Bowl rings. Is it a good idea for a quarterback who struggled down the stretch last year and this year to be engaged in a high profile relationship during the season? Whether the criticism is fair or not, there's nothing like putting additional pressure on yourself during the playoffs, especially given how last year's playoffs ended for Dallas.

Ultimately, I suppose he can date whoever he wants, but boy howdy, it is embarrassing to write about this stuff. But as long as people seem interested, people are going to write and talk about it and say all sorts of things, ridiculous and otherwise.
