The fallout from the NHL Winter Classic continues, with another two teams getting in line for a chance to host another regular season NHL game outdoors. Except this time we have a pair of clubs vying for a shot to host a game at the same stadium. Yesterday's New York Daily News reported that both the New York Rangers and their suburban rivals the New York Islanders have approached the New York Yankees about holding a game at Yankee Stadium -- an event which would be the venue's last moment in the spotlight before meeting the wrecking ball.
Willie O'Ree -- Still Getting it Done: If you haven't heard the story of Willie O'Ree, the NHL's answer to Jackie Robinson, you ought to spend a little more time getting to know a living legend that is still walking the earth. Thankfully Willie, who didn't retire from professional hockey until the age of 45, is still on the road working with the NHL to spread the gospel of hockey far and wide.Over the weekend, O'Ree and a couple members of the San Jose Sharks helped out with an ice hockey clinic in Oakland. Jon Swensen of Sharkspage was there, and put together this photo album.

That would be a winner. The Isles and the Rangers playing outdoors at Yankee Stadium would certainly be a hit. Or the Devils and the Rangers. Or the Islanders and..

It sounds good, but only if the monuments are in play. That way, Marek Malik would blend in a little better when he's on the ice.

If the NHL lets them do it, I'm going to be utterly pissed. Outdoor games should NOT become an annual event -- the Winter Classic was meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime event, and having another one a year after the first one on US turf just ruins it for anyone who went to the one in Buffalo.
NYC truly are little copy-cat cry babies that refuse to be left out of anything. -_-

You mean like the once-in-a-lifetime event they had in Edmonton four years previously?

Why just limit themselves to only a "chosen" few??? I don't see anything wrong for any team to attempt a "Classic", not only for their franchise, but for their fans as well. If the "ingredients" for holding an outdoor game are there, why not??? The teams with "warmer" area climates may have a problem, but at least it might institute a newer intrest in the league???
