This morning FanHouse's Josh Alper noted that Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett is in Baltimore meeting with the Ravens, and that there was a good chance he would have a job offer by the end of the interview.According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, that's exactly what happened, and Garrett is about to be hired by the Ravens as their next head coach. Although a contract has not yet been signed, it appears that Garrett will get the job today. There was talk that Garrett would meet with the Atlanta Falcons about their coaching job, but that apparently will not happen.
For the Ravens, it seems like a good move: Garrett is the league's hot assistant coach, he did good work with the Cowboys' offense (at least, until December and January), and the Ravens simply must get someone in place who can turn their offense around.
For the Cowboys, it means they're about to lose their two most important offensive assistants, as offensive line coach Tony Sparano is expected to take the head coaching job in Miami. Wade Phillips has a lot of work to do.
UPDATE: Jason Garrett Leaves Baltimore, Heads to Atlanta; Will He Coach Ravens or Falcons?

MDS- I think the move to make Garret a head coach is a premature one. Spending only one year as a coordinator (of which you acknowledge he struggled 1 of the 4 months in the season) is hardly enough of a body of work. Moreover, ignoring Garrett's obvious flaws, such as his Mike Martz like decision to abandon the run against New York, will in my opinion come back to hurt the Ravens. Garrett is young and inexperienced, what exactly is the hurry?

Fickle owners.....HA! One minute Baltimore says they want a "true" head coach (whatever that is) and not an offensive or defensive oriented coordinator. Next thing you know, they are interviewing some kid that the entire world is all "hot & bothered" over that has little coaching experience, no experience as a head coach and took a highly potent offense this year and let them crash and burn in December and January. Yeah.....Jason Garrett is a great hire! Good luck Ravens if he becomes your next head coach......

I knew this was coming first it will be Garrett, then Sparano. The Boys are gonna crash and burn under the leadership of Ol Wade. This was the season we needed to get it done, I don't know maybe its just me, it seems like Mr. Romo's game dropped dramatically shortly after he got his big contract, and that thing came along with it, oh I mean Ms. Simpson.

I have to agree with harryboyl777. Unless they find some really great replacements for Garrett and Sparano, Dallas is going to suffer next year. I have very little confidence in Wade at repeating the 13-3 season without those guys. However, I also think that teams (including Jerry Jones, if he elected to do it right now) are gambling quite a bit on Garrett. Sure, he was a great offensive coordinator for the first 13 weeks of the NFL season, but does that make him a great prospect for head coach right now? If he goes to the Ravens, expect Wade to be fired after next year and watch Jerry Jones go after Bill Cowher for the '09 season, when he wants to come back.
