There's a bit of a controversy going on at the Australian Open after a TV camera lingered on Venus Williams' behind and the Australian tennis coach Roger Rasheed, who was working as an announcer for an Aussie TV station, commented on it. Let's go to the video:
"Take a look at this now. Make or think as you will, ladies, but for me, that's a pretty good sight,'' Rasheed said on the air.
Although it was intended as a compliment, it's still inappropriate. During live sporting events, announcers should stick to talking about the action on the court. However, this is far from the most offensive thing any announcer has ever said, and his employer says no disciplinary action will be taken.

1. Nobody says anything about Maria Sharapova and/or Anna K. on what they wear? These commentators should comment on the match! They are not fashion critics. Besides, go after the sponsor (Nike, Addidas, etc) if they don't like the outfit.

2. im sorry, but that outfit is not appropriate,,,those "shorts" go so far up her butt,,,however, she is a professional, and I suppose she has the right to "express herself"..It is the job of the commentator to make comments..he diddnt say "nappy headed" or anythign like that,,he was talking about how nice her butt looked,,and since she has gone out of her way to show it off, i think a commentator should commentate,,if she doesnt want to be objectified, then she should not dress like a ho,,,I am sure there are some people that are more offended by her clothes than his comments

3. its like a stripper getting pissed if you stare at her breasts. If you dress that way, you want the attention.

4. I'm offended by the bleeping morons who pollute our society that are offended by every comment made whether or not the comment was intended to offend or compliment the person. Political correctness, which does unfortunately exist, is destroyin this once great society. When did complementing a great butt become offensive. I'm glad it wasn't for the first 40 years of my life!

5. Nice shot big deal get on with it. You people keep things like this in the spotlight longer by trying to figure out if it was right or wrong than just chalking it up to comment made. Move on..... Jeez

6. There's nothing wrong with what the commentator said, personally I appreciate her assets.

8. well let me see...you wear a style that accents your butt, people notice that it accents your butt and then others think it's inappropriate...hmmm...don't wear the frickin style!!!!! there are plenty of other styles available...and given the nature of camera shots in general, i.e. behind the player, male or female at times as the other person serves...then to not be aware that your butt is in the photos is naive...

9. That looked uncomfortable for playing tennis. She kept pulling them down. Not appropriate tennis wear. I look at it this way...if you are going to wear something like that then you are asking for sexist attention.

12. It's not like he said she had a fat nasty ass. He complimented on how she's put together. Fact is, she has a nice butt and not ashamed of showing it, what's wrong with recognizing it?

13. Only panty waisted, limp wristed metro-males and the Butch girl feminazis get angry over a comment like that. Why? Because the sissy boys don't like it when a man comments about the assets of a woman (it means he isn't paying attention to the little puffer) and, the Feminazis hate themselves - that's why they scream "sexist", "chauvanist" etc..They're usually the fat, unattractive, dried up slugs that couldn't buy a guy's attention. I'd love to see Sharapova come out there and play in something skimpy from Victoria's secret - to hell with the tennis! Oh, by the way - those who get all flustered about the Commentators remarks - shut up and go back to drooling over those baggy pants wearing, tatooed lovlies of the WNBA..oh yeah, there's some real beauties there..ROFL.

14. Soon the only people that will be allowed to express an opinion, or what people are thinking, are black people when they use the "N" word, and women, when they are gossiping about other women. So much for the first amendment, apparently only certain people have first amendment rights.

15. He's from Australia - they're a little more lax about such things over there. Venus' shorts do seem a bit uncomfortable for her - if you have to pull at them like that, it interferes with focus and that can be harmful in a game where you have to be so aware. For commentators, best to let certain things exist without comment unless the comment is about focus etc. - sexual comments are better left unsaid unless we're going to give Tracy a pass to comment on Nadal and his tight pants and all the pulling he does and how hot she finds that.

So very manly of you!

18. Most women don't even wear that short of underwwear and the tightness of those pants leave nothing to the imagination. Wha't wrong with the comment... if a male wore that tight of pants and the outline of his package as showing I bet the female commenators would be saying the same.
Outfit is inappropriate !!!!
Posted at 6:13PM on Jan 17th 2008 by BIGLEN
19. if all females would wear something like that, I would watch tennis lol

20. Are you serious. If you don't like what she's wearing, yell at the sponsors. If it was that inappropriate, they wouldn't have let her wear it.
