Another day, another gaffe from ESPN's Emmitt Smith, who has made so many of them that it feels a little unfair to keep bringing them up. But this one, in which he says of the Giants, "If they win today they could possibly go on to the Super Bowl," is egregious enough that it deserves mention.
Awful Announcing and Pro Football Talk have chronicled all of Smith's problems this year, and there's been talk that ESPN will fire Smith after the season. But I actually think he could provide some valuable analysis. He's obviously knowledgeable about football, he just gets visibly nervous and horribly tongue-tied when he's on live TV. I think if ESPN puts him in taped segments where he's breaking down film and analyzing running backs, he could have a future on TV. But they've got to get him off the live pregame show.

I have to admit, Emmitt needs to retire infull! He's great on his feet and the NFL's All-time RB and a few good steps "dancing with the stars" but his announcing is Awful but will ALWAYS be a CLASS-ACT!

Quit dogging Emmitt Smith-- this is ridiculous. What is on this video is no worse than mistakes announcers make daily-- Phil Simms, Boomer Esiasion, Howie Long, any of them! No one can speak extemporaneously for a long time and expect it to all come out without a stumble or some grammatical error. And that includes the idiots who would criticize this then turn to their buddies-- "Uh, like, you know what I mean, I mean,like no one, uh, you know what I'm saying?!"

Just because the giants won yesterday does not guantee they will go to the superbowl. however unlikely, something could happen, and the giants might not get to the superbowl.
i think emmit is just smarter than the rest of us and sees things for what they actually are
