Everybody knows that
Shaquille O'Neal earns is paid $20 million a year by the Miami Heat. But where does all that money go? Thanks to his pending divorce, Shaq's monthly budget is now on the public record --
"Extra" has dug up the financial affidavit of the divorce papers (which can be
viewed in PDF form here).
Try to wrap your head around these numbers -- on a monthly basis, Shaq spends:
- $24,300 at the gas station filling up (dude, buy a Prius)
- $17,220 on clothes
- $6,730 on laundry and dry cleaning
- $2,305 on pet care
- $1,620 on music and magazines
- $1,495 on cable television.
You want to know my favorite? The $114,946 that's listed as "miscellaneous (personal)" -- you know, walking around money, pocket change so you're never left without something to feed the meter or, I don't know, buy a new car or two without writing a check. (And just think how much money he'll spend now that he has
all this free time over the next couple of weeks!) But when you're living this large, it's not all fun -- the guy also pays $75,261 in property tax alone, which I guess is what you'd expect from a
20,000 square foot mansion on the water.

Shaq is a cool dude, even though he left my beloved Orlando Magic. Anyhow, the big guy does good and hopefully he will remain with the NBA in some capacity as either owner or coach after he retires. A kudo of good words to one of his Miami Heat coaches, Bob Mc Adoo. Bob Mc Adoo kicked butt while with the Buffalo Braves during the 70's and he is looked up to even to this day by Buffalo Braves fans.

Living the good life is one thing but his is absurd. How can anyone spend $24,000 a month at a gas station (jet fuel?) or $6,800 a month on laundry and dry cleaning? Its this type of life style that leaves some of these guys broke later in life.

$24000 at the gas pump is because he has registered in his name 18 vehicles. Yes, that's right, 18. Don't ask me how I know this, but it's credible. Although some of those vehicles are actually vessels, he drives a number of gas-hogs, such as a Hummer and some high-end sports cars.

You gotta leave Shaq alone. With all that money, he still can't handle something that costs '0' like a free-throw

He is also picking up the tab for other family and friends etc. I know I'm not the only person smart enough to figure that one out?

Does anyone think that because he lives on the water...he might have a boat? That would cost alot more to fill-up than a car.

Let's try a little math here. $24,000/month for gas at $3 a gallon equals 8,000 gallons. At an average of 10 miles/gallon for all 18 vehicles, that's 80,000 miles driven in a month. There's 720 hours in a month. That means those vehicles are being driven 111 miles every hour of the month. Hey, sure, why not, works for me, nothing outrageous here.

Ever since punked, I saw that in real life, Shaq is not very nice to the common man, if a camera is around, I'm sure he is super nice when a camera is around, in real life, a camera shows it all, and I thought he was very rude and arrogant, because he did not know it was a joke. He should buy even more cars and open his own "Shaq" gas station, then he will get a better deal on gas!

BFD!!!!! He earned every penny of the $20 million. An article like this only perpetuates the negative sterotypes associated with Black professional athletes. There's a lot of jealous, racist Americans out here an this story couldn't have come at a worst time. There are people in other countries of the world who again recieve another toxic dose of poison from the American media. Why doesn't "Matt Watson" talk about the good things that
Shaq & other Black professional atletes have done & continue to do????? Misery loves company......

It's hilarious that all this is simply loose change to him. I think along with some other people that he must be paying some stuff for family and friends. If tom's calculations are correct then obviously not everything adds up. It's probably going to cost more than $3 a gallon for the cars he drives, but I still don't think it is going to change much.
I don't like the thought of finding out where all his money goes and you can't really be surprised at his extravagant spending when he is picking up about $400,00 a week is it?

great publicity stunt, 20 million before taxes, factor in taxes, agents fees and commissions, and he is nowhere near 20 mil, but still with a lot of cash. A good read but the numbers are highly fudged, just like our banking system, nay government too.
