Redskins Wanted USC Coach Pete Carroll

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported today that the Washington Redskins' weird coaching search included a meeting in St. Louis with USC head coach Pete Carroll.

Although it's not clear whether the Redskins were just asking if Carroll had any interest or whether they were actually telling him the job was his if he wanted it, it's yet another sign that many NFL owners are convinced that Carroll's success at USC means he deserves a third chance in the NFL.

Still, the Redskins job is the type of job he'd be expected to turn down, no matter how much money Redskins owner Dan Snyder was offering. All indications are that Carroll will need total control if he's ever going to return to the NFL, and that's not something Snyder is willing to offer.
