Clemens' Agents Release Statistical Report to Defend PED Claims

If we've learned anything about Roger Clemens and his crack staff of layers and agents, it's that they'll go to great -- and oftentimes ridiculous -- lengths in an effort to protect Roger's now tarnished image. The latest idea? Hendricks Sports Management has created a statistical report of Clemens' career in an effort to prove it was his mechanics that made him such a great pitcher into his 40s, not his trainer sticking a needle in his butt.

You can peep said report on the horrendously designed RogerClemensReport.com. The New York Times has the details
"Clemens' longevity was due to his ability to adjust his style of pitching as he got older, incorporating his very effective split-finger fastball to offset the decrease in the speed of his regular fastball caused by aging," the report says.

The 18,000-word report, prepared by Hendricks Sports Management, contains 31 charts but does not specifically refute the claims made in the Mitchell report that Clemens was injected with steroids and human growth hormone on 16 occasions from 1998 to 2001.

In an e-mail message, Randy Hendricks, one of Clemens's agents, said his firm had released the report to try and refute inaccurate statements that had been made about Clemens's performance.

"There is a lot of misconception and misinformation floating out in the public domain," Hendricks said, citing the perception that Clemens was losing some of his effectiveness when he left Boston.

I can't say this is a bad idea; Clemens' crew is certainly giving it the old college try on all this stuff. But the writing is already on the wall for Clemens. His name was in the report. Guilty or not, his image will be forever tarnished -- an amateur Web site with some stats certainly isn't going to change that.
