Eli Manning on Childhood Football Games: 'Peyton Needed Someone to Beat On'

Giants quarterback Eli Manning is in the Super Bowl, the same place where his big brother, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, was a year ago. But while they're both NFL quarterbacks now, when the two played as kids, Eli didn't get to throw the ball.

"A bunch of his friends would come over and he'd make me be permanent center," Eli said today at Super Bowl media day.

And Eli added that when their oldest brother would pick on Peyton, Eli would then feel Peyton's wrath.

"I got pounded on a little bit," he said. "Cooper was two years older and could pick on Peyton a little, and Peyton needed someone to beat on."

Although both Eli and Peyton have followed in the footsteps of their father, Archie, by becoming NFL quarterbacks, Eli says that he actually takes more after his mother, with whom he spent a lot of time growing up while his dad was watching his brothers play football.

"I would say I'm a mama's boy," Eli said. "I'm not ashamed of it. It's not a bad thing."
