His Name is Earl ... And He Wants Work

And you may have forgotten all about him, what with this Damon Stoudamire, Sam Cassell and Jason Kidd talk floating all around. But according to his agent, Mark Termini, Earl Boykins will have a job within the next week. And perhaps that explains why the Orlando Magic pulled out of the Damon Stoudamire sweepstakes. Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News seems to think though, that Earl would have been a pretty nice fit for the Mavs had Devin Harris been out of action longer than two or three weeks.

And he is right. In fact, it would not be shocking to see the Mavericks pursue someone like Boykins -- obviously they want Kidd but the pieces do not seem to fit -- as a gap-stop until Harris' return, even with the presence of Jason Terry. However, more interesting is the news from Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith that he would not be making any trades before the deadline. Because Boykins has been out of work all season, but presumably has kept himself in shape, this would require nothing more than a simple tendered contract.

Look for Boykins to land in Orlando, assuming Termini is telling the truth, which is something all sports agents do.
