Apparently having confidence in your team is frowned upon these days.Prior to leaving for Phoenix, New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was asked asked for his Super Bowl prediction, and with without hesitation he replied "23-17." He didn't specify which team would come out on top, but the message was clear.
Unfortunately, that "guarantee" didn't sit well with Giants' management.
"Yeah, I don't particularly like to have people make guarantees and stuff like that," John Mara said yesterday. "I'd like to keep it as quiet as possible. There's been a minimal amount of chirping all season and we'd like to keep it that way."What Burress said was hardly a guarantee of any kind, but leave it to the New York media to spin it in such a way. In fact, everything the Giants have said that seems remotely confident has been turned into a "guarantee" of some sort.
Maybe I'm off my bases here, but this is a Super Bowl team. Are they supposed to arrive and say "well, we made it as far as we could -- go Patriots!" I certainly don't think so, they certainly don't think so and the media shouldn't think so either.
And if Plax making a simple prediction is considered a guarantee, what is Boston planning a victory parade considered?

Dan,
I know you are a Giants fan, and I am too. However, I think a great part of their success this season has been their ability to SHUT UP. Being confident is fine. Thinking you will win is fine. (In fact, you'd better!) But, no need for gold colored glasses and "23-17." Just say: "we've made it this far, we didn't come to lose, and I think if we play Giants Football, we'll come out on top"

RJ Bell of http://www.pregame.com offered the following in relation to the Giants odds of reaching the Super Bowl:
What were the odds of the Giants making the Super Bowl? Considering the Las Vegas odds on the Giants’ playoff games, the chances of New York winning all three on the road was 39 to 1 against. And the odds of the Giants winning a record 10 straight road games? The chances of New York winning all ten was amazingly over 3,000 to 1 against!

The Giants player made the guarantee but the Patriots didn't plan the parade. It's a scheduling issue because it falls on Super Tues.
