Irish fans, I'm guessing most of you have a fancy bottle of scotch laying around somewhere, undoubtedly a gift from a client a few years back that you just haven't gotten around to opening because there's never really been an occasion to do so (plus straight scotch tastes icky and burns your throat, you big girl). Well, son, dive into that cabinet with pots and pans in it, crack open the blue label, and take a big hearty slug from it, because it's a damn good day for the Fighting Irish.Completely out of nowhere, the Irish have hired Jon Tenuta, the moody genius behind Georgia Tech's perennially awesome defenses, to replace the retiring Bill Lewis as defensive backs coach.
Yeah, you read that correctly.
The same Jon Tenuta that held the vaunted 2006 Irish offense to its season-low 14 points, the same Jon Tenuta that somehow managed to turn the Yellow Jackets into a consistent bowl team despite having Reggie Ball at quarterback and a completely nonexistent offensive scheme. One of the prized defensive coordinators on the market picked the Irish as his next project.
Details are still hazy, but I think it's safe to assume his hiring comes with an assistant head coach title, oversight for the woeful Irish special teams, and a truckload of money. At any rate, go out and get drunk tonight, Irish fans, and spend your hazy blackout sleep dreaming about exotic blitz formations, two-star Yellow Jacket players making it to the NFL under Tenuta's tenure, and a brilliant defensive mind on the Irish coaching staff that can foist against Charlie Weis to improve the offensive scheme. Prost!

1. Screw you Brian! You are just envious of the Irish tradition. You guys don't beat up on the Dallas Cowboys or college teams like USC and Miami, but you sure can say crap about the Irish.

2. Uh.... what? Ron, I'm a die-hard Irish fan and alumnus and I'm excited about hiring one of the best minds in college football to coach our defense. I'm confused.

4. Sorry Brian, it just did not sound like a positive article, but maybe I misinterpreted it. I grew up 10 miles from the golden dome, so you know I am protective.

5. Ha!!! Notre Dame fans are great. This guy is a blitz happy DC that has only one arrow in his quiver. BC ate this guy up this tear and so will any team with a quality QB who can read a blitz. Lucky for ND they have softened up their schedule enough that this won't matter mucg for the next few years.

6. If this guy can bring in a truckload of STEROIDS and HGH, just as Stammering Lou did, we just may be able to bRing back the return of THE TARNISHED DOME.

9. He wasn't all that great here at Tech. A lot of points were scored against us.

10. BC and several other teams were able to pick up the blitz packages after the first series of downs. Unless ND has a rock solid defensive backfield "NOT", your going to give up a bucnh of big plays.

11. Hopefully he can help the Irish figure out those "vaunted" service academy offenses.

12. This is an excellent hire for Note Dame. I have watched him from the Georgia side of the field, and can say he is the only reason Tech has been in some of the games. With Chan Gailey playing "Reggie/Gailey" ball for a few years Tenuta's defense was the only thing Tech had to cheer. He was the class of Tech's coaches
