What Was Wrong With the Old USA Jersey?

This is the new U.S. men's national soccer team jersey, which Nike unveiled yesterday.

This jersey speaks to me. It says, 'Daddy got me into the really good schools, and he paid for all the best coaches, so that I could win against those dirty Mexicans and take home that really big trophy. Have you seen my trophy? It's huge!'

Hearing this, I feel compelled to slap this jersey for being such a snobby little suburban D-bag. If that's the image Nike really wanted to project with this jersey ... well, it'll look good on Landon Donovan, I guess.

Our pal Amanda at You'll Never Blog Alone probably said it best:

This is a collar-less version of the rugby shirts my brother used to wear. When he was five. Put a collar on it, and this is the shirt every guy in every bar in town wears when he can't commit to an actual button-down. In other words, this isn't a jersey. It's a shirt. It's not iconic, it's not distinctive, and it's not even particularly good-looking.

But hey, if you're looking for something for Casual Friday, knock yourself out.
