Gerald Green Raises Dunk Contest Smack Talk Level to 13 Feet

If all the talk flying around between the participants is to be believed, we could be in for one very interesting Slam Dunk Contest. A couple of days ago we heard Rudy Gay send a not-so-subtle message to Dwight Howard, letting Dwight know that if he wants to go dunking on a 12-foot rim, that Rudy would have no trouble matching that feat.

Now we have the event's defending champion, Gerald Green, taking things up a notch -- literally. Green on his blog states that he's up for raising the stakes to a ridiculous 13-feet, which would be, you know, ridiculous.

Gerald Green: I don't know, I might see if they can raise mine to 13 feet. I think 12 feet might be a little too short for me.

NBA.com:
Anything you want to say to the other guys?

Gerald Green:
I don't know if they knew, but I don't know who won the dunk contest last year. Who won it? I'm not really sure. I just want those guys to know who won it last year. I think Dwight knows who won it. I don't know, but I'm just sayin'. Like I said, I'm going in as the underdog. I like that battle.

I'm sorry, but I think I'm going to have to call [shenanigans] on this one. I admire Green's bravado, really I do, but no way he's dunking on a 13-foot rim. And anyway, I don't think we're likely to find out, at least at the Dunk Contest. The league has frowned on the idea of raising the rim like this in the past, mainly because it squashes all creativity. I mean, you can't jump over people or take off from the free throw line if all you're doing is going for height. Either way, with the participants this eager to go at each other, this could end up being the most exciting event of Al-Star weekend.
