Here's what we know: Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis says Chad Johnson isn't going anywhere. Johnson, on the other hand, seems less sure about that. On ESPN's Sunday Countdown, Chris Mortensen reports that Ocho Cinco, represented by agent Drew Rosenhaus, is privately threatening to sit out the 2008 season if he's not traded.
Mortensen also mentions that "Johnson feels betrayed by his coach because Lewis quit speaking to his receiver early in the season." Again, this is based on a source close to Mr. Cinco.
That said, given Johnson's behavior recently, it's not really shocking to think he wants out of Cincy. There's no way in hell he sits out the season, and if I'm the Bengals, I dare him to do just that. It would last a week. Maybe.
If the organization takes a "Johnson's more trouble than he's worth" approach to this, they have all the leverage. I don't know if they'll be able to squeeze a first-round pick out of a team for Johnson, but a second-rounder seems reasonable. Or, and this sounds crazy, I know, Johnson could just get over the fact that not everybody's going to love him and play out his contract. I'm guessing that doesn't happen.
