No one has any details but it is going across the ESPN News crawl . Texas Tech Coach Bobby Knight has resigned. A spokesman for Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers says men's basketball coach Bob Knight has resigned, effective immediately. The play-calling crew on the Louisville-Marquette suggested hitting the ESPN.com site for more info. That was it? Right. Thanks for clearing that up.
On the court it means that his son, Pat, will take over as the head coach. Pat Knight was previously designated as the coach-in-waiting for the Red Raiders.
Stunning. I never thought that Bob Knight would ever quit in the middle of a season. Even if he seemed rather disinterested this season. He got past win #900 and that was enough.
All that is known, is that Bob Knight told the Texas Tech AD this morning that he was resigning. Since there is no information as to the why, expect speculation to run rampant. Resigning in the middle of the conference schedule, and without warning will do that.
Sorry, No Photos

A complicated man and career, but on balance..........good riddance! He hated to be disrespected, but disrespected everyone he came in contact with: college presidents and administrators, officials, NCAA personnel, reporters, fans, ordinary students, even the law (see Puerto Rico).

I would like to hear from ex-players of Mr. Knight. I assure you these players are deeply aware of the vast amount of energy and sincerity Bob Knight put into his coaching efforts. Spectators have contrasted views of this man: the players know the depth of this man, and his worth to the game.

I love the guy. God bless him. He has stood for hardwork and the traditions of sportsmanship and fair hard play. We will miss him very much. We all have flaws. Suffering his imperfections never troubled me. I have admired his excellence and the discipline he brought to his teams. Discipline is something our culture now rebels against. I wish him a long life, good health and many blessings.

Maybe this time, the potted plant he threw at his secretary landed.
Nonetheless, he was a great coach of boys. No way he could coach men.

Say what you want about Bobby Knight. His players had extremely high graduation rates. Not many other coaches can make that claim. Let's face it, very few college players will become pro athletes. A college degree is the best thing they could earn

Biggest cheater and most disrespectful person I have ever seen in the state of indiana. Hope one day he tries to make a few of his wrongs right. I don't think "I am sorry" is in his vocabulary. He sure has messed up a lot of young peoples lives. Maybe now he will have time to reflect back on his life and see that winning and running over people is not what life is about.

nickstoli...Coach Knight turned "boys" into "men" and taught them discipline and respect. That is why "boys" wanted to play ball for him. Those who knew they could not handle him went elswhere. I think Coach Knight is the greatest college basketball coach ever!! Like others have said, I wish Coach Knight a great retirement, good health, and many more years!!
Coach Knight, congratulations on a great career!! You will be missed!!

Knew him as a person and lived at IU with one of his players. Could never control his temper and at the end of his run at IU, was more about control than the game. That said, he helped, not hurt, more than any of us know. He is still the #1 contributor to the campus library despite being gone almost a decade, and was extremely generous to the blue collar people who make up most of Bloomington and southern Indiana. He allowed some players more liberties than others, but never allowed anyone to be on the take in any way, which is more than 99% of the programs can say. I wish him more peace in retirement than he has had over the last 20 years. He is the last of the true dinosurs. He is also the last to accomplish what he did- 3 NCAA titles, an Olympic Gold medal, and played on an NCAA championship team, not to mention many other accomplishments. His win total will surely be surpassed, but the whole of his career will not.

Bobby Knight = brilliant college coach, dick.
John Wooden = brilliant college coach, wonderful human being.
One is an embarrassment to the NCAA, the other is a treasure. Gee, which is which?

One poster said Bob Knight was a cheater ? are you kidding ? Nobody has run top notch college programs any cleaner than Coach Knight. Then I read about John Wooden being a great human......great human yes, I agree.....dirty program to the max. Too bad he couldn't use his great teaching lessons to teach his players not to accept all the benefits they received while at UCLA.

OH! MR KNIGHT, NOW EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT MR KNIGHT IS A TICKING TIME BOMB. HE SEEMS TO BE A VERY STRESSED OUT MAN.MAYBE SINCE HE HAS CALLED IT QUITS, HE WILL NOW TAKE THE PERSONAL TIME & EFFORT TO SEEK AN OUTLET THAT WILL HELP CALM HIM DOWN. MR KNIGHT, YOU CAN NOT CONTINUE TO HAVE OPEN OUT BURST. IT IS GOOD THAT HE PUT TECH MEN'S BASKETBALL ON THE MAP, BECAUSE, ONCE UPON A TIME, TECH'S MEN BASKETBALL TEAM WAS NOT THE BEST IT COULD HAVE BEEN. NOW, MR KNIGHT'S SON WILL TAKE OVER THE HELM,& MAYBE IT WILL WORK OUT FOR THE BETTERMENT OF TEXAS TECH.
