Outside a couple of scares, the health of the Celtics' top trio has not been an issue in the regular season's first half. Considering injuries and point guard play were the top concerns heading in, and since Rajon Rondo's played well, you'd think the sunshine in Boston remains unfiltered. But Ray Allen's ankles... we might want to pay attention to those. From the MetroWest Daily News' Scott Souza (via CelticsBlog):
"When I left (Seattle) the doctor there told me that he didn't want me to go to training camp and he didn't want me to play back-to-back (nights) starting the season off," Allen said. "The team had a relationship with the trainers, and the doctor, so they knew what the prognosis was - that I would have to ease into it.So when Ray misses a Game 3 or something because of his ankles, remember how much you enjoyed that midseason victory over the Nets.
"But then when I was traded, with all the excitement and everything that I was doing, I just came here getting ready to play a season. There was no way I was going to come in and say, 'I can't play. I am not going to training camp.' And then, 'I'm not playing back-to-backs.' I was just going to take it day-by-day and see how I felt."
Cynicism aside, isn't this pretty irresponsible? The Celtics need Allen a lot less right now than they do in the postseason. Being honest is more important than saving the warm-fuzzies from doubt. November might have been less boisterous had Ray been straight about everything, but if this goes wrong, June is going to be much, much worse than November would ever have bee,

I wouldn't worry about Ray Allen. He's a warrior and keeps himself in top condition. He's missed extended time only once in his career. The Celtics can count on him playing.

This is why contending teams just sort of sigh and roll their eyes over how seriously the Celts are taking this regular season. Their quest to win as many games as possible is going to leave them tired and hurt in the playoffs. For a team that is already hurt most of the time and relies on energy a lot, that is not a formula for success.

This is something I'd be concerned about if I was them. They will have a tough playoffs and finals, and they WILL need everyone healthy.
