It seems like pretty much everybody outside of New England took some positives from the Giants Super Bowl victory over the Patriots. For most of the country, it was the schadenfreude of seeing the Pats go 18-1; for Bears fans, it's the pipe dream that Rex Grossman could actually turn things around since, you know, Eli Manning is now the most popular person in New York after a five-week stretch of great football that nobody saw coming.
The Chicago Tribune's David Haugh answers if it's possible for Grossman to "pull an Eli" at some point in the future:
It's not really a fair question. But if framed solely as yes-no, then the answer is yes, with the understanding that all that conspired to produce a Super Bowl title for Manning the last month happens once in a career to a NFL quarterback if he is lucky.I understand Haugh's point, but I'm still not convinced Grossman's anything more than a solid NFL backup. Of course, there was talk at the beginning of the season about the Giants not picking up the option on Manning's contract, so who knows. And as Haugh points out, "difference in talent between Manning and Grossman is exaggerated. The difference in their respective rosters and the level of commitment their organizations showed in them is real."
If the Bears are interested in seeing this fairy tale play out, they're going to have to first re-sign Grossman, who will be a free agent in a few weeks.

well i like grossman it's hard to be an nfl Q.B.! All season long you had the city and the T.v. news talking bad about him. we should be trying to help the guy by talking good about him. when your kids do bad at there games you don't tell them to just give up.Hard to play well when you hear bad stuff. The guy took us to the super bowl on his 1st real year. come on already Sign him again. He can do it!! you'll be mad if you let him go and he takes that team to the big game.
