You might assume very few people were interested in a game between Providence and St. John's. After all, these are two teams that were a combined 1 game over .500 and with losing records in the Big East. Well, there was a select group that probably watched this game closely. Assistant coaches and unemployed head coaches looking for a new job. In the Big East, St. John's and Providence are the only two schools with a significant chance of firing their present coaches and joining the coaching carousel in March. A meeting between the two disappointing programs would be a good barometer to judge which program would be inching another loss closer to a change.
Providence College came out the losesr, 64-62, but the definite winner in Big East school most likely to fire their head coach, Tim Welsh. The Friars have now lost 5 of their last 6 and a season that actually had some potential is now swirling towards debacle as they drift closer to the bottom 4 of the Big East and missing the Big East Tournament.
It only looks to get worse for Providence as they have Pitt, Louisville and Georgetown as their next 3 opponents. It's looking ugly.
Norm Roberts actually can take a breath. The Red Storm are actually on a 3 game winning streak, and at least have the promise of youth and young talent.

1. Sorry to say, it's time for a coaching change at Providence. Tim Welsh has had his chance. The Friars are struggling. They have the potential but Welsh hasn't put it together on a consistent basis. There's something lacking and it's not the players.

3. 10 years is plenty of time to right the ship at PC. Time for a change. The sooner the better.
