The Raiders and running back Justin Fargas have agreed on a contract extension, the team announced on its web site.Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports (via PFT) that it's a three-year, $12 million deal with $6 million in guaranteed money. The deal will keep the 28-year-old Fargas in Oakland through the 2010 season. He had been scheduled to become a free agent on February 29.
Although a $6 million guarantee is certainly not bad money, I'm surprised Fargas didn't test the waters of free agency. I would think a guy who's still in his 20s and coming off career highs in carries (222), yards (1,009), touchdowns (four), receptions (23) and receiving yards (188) would want to see how much he could command on the open market.
Fargas, the Raiders' third-round pick out of USC in 2003, will compete for the starting running back position with LaMont Jordan, Michael Bush and Dominic Rhodes in 2008. (UPDATE: There's a good chance that Jordan, Rhodes, or both will get cut.)

2. As a longtime Raider fan Justine showed much heart and did us proud. He deserved more money as well. I know Huggy bear is proud of his son.

3. He definitely saved my fantasy team when Jordan and Jacobs went down with injuries. Good mid to late round pick for next year. Rhodes and Jordan need to get cut; they make too much and they're aging. Plus don't they have Mike Bush? If they held on to him and he's healthy he should be able to hold down the backup job.

4. Great pickup. Now we can drop Jordans contract and probably release Rhodes, but he did pretty good in the final game last season. BUT, should we still go after Darren McFadden, trade up to #1 and get Glenn Dorsey, just trade that pick to the Bengals and get Chad Johnson, or trade for another decent wideout? So many options.
