Henry Waxman Regrets the Clemens Hearings

Even if you only saw two minutes of the Roger Clemens hearings on Wednesday, it was probably pretty clear to you that the whole thing was more circus and mudslinging than actual substance. If you followed along with our liveblogs, you probably noticed along with Josh and MDS that the hearings were surprisingly partisan, with the Democrats lining up with Brian McNamee and the Republicans with Clemens. In fact, things were so bad that House Oversight Committee Chair Henry Waxman thinks the hearing was a bad idea. From the New York Times:
"I think Clemens and McNamee both came out quite sullied, and I didn't think it was a hearing that needed to be held in order to get the facts out about the Mitchell report," Waxman said.

[...]

And it was out in the open that it became Democrat against Republican. Waxman said he was shocked at the partisan nature of the hearing, with Democrats, for the most part, grilling Clemens, while Republicans lambasted McNamee. "I was disappointed to see that kind of partisanship, and I can't understand it," Waxman said.
Of course, Waxman also wants you to know that the hearings weren't even his idea and that they would've never happened if Clemens didn't push for them. Because I'm sure Clemens' idea of a fun morning was to go to Congress and either commit perjury or face harsh and false accusations about his career (pick your poison). Roger Clemens, Brian McNamee, and Congress. This is one saga without a good guy.
